WAIT-My One Word for 2022

One Word 2022

For many years, I’ve chosen a single word….My One Word…..to use during the year. Some people look at One Word as an abbreviated resolution. Others like this as single idea to focus on. I’m a to-do list maker, so I write out my resolutions…with some success…but I love the simple concept of One Word to remind me of my focus. I do both. (I probably should use the word “simplify” some day.)

And I should clarify. I don’t choose the word. It’s given to me. Usually in early December I start to consider what word stands out in my thoughts. Then I pray about my musings. This year I struggled with God about the word He chose for me.

ME: “What? WAIT is to be my word? Did I understand You correctly? But WAIT is so passive. WAIT doesn’t move me forward. WAIT isn’t exciting.”

But then He showed me my verse. It turns out the chosen Scripture is one of my favorites.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. ~~Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

WAIT is a good word for me this year.

I will be still and WAIT to hear our Savior’s voice.

I will WAIT with patience as God prepares our hearts for this year.

I will WAIT in trust as our Lord reveals his perfect plans for us.

I will WAIT without fear as He leads us through 2022.

Have you heard of One Word? Do you use the One Word concept? What is your One Word?

I pray your year is filled with blessings.

  1. I love your word for 2022, Sherida. I agree, it’s certainly not passive. I’m recycling a word from several years ago. I’ve chosen FOCUS. Often I feel I’m going in so many directions that I’m unable to think straight. Thank you for sharing your word. Have a great weekend! xo

  2. Sherida, I love your word. I’ve always heard waiting is active. Something is always going on while you’re waiting. You’re renewing your strength, you’re gathering your thoughts, you’re refueling your energy, you’re preparing for the next step, etc. My one word is purposefully.

    1. Thanks, Sally. I like your interpretation of wait….and all it involves. And “purposefully” is a great word for heading into the future. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing. Happy New Year!

  3. Loved this post, Sherida!
And that Scripture is one of my favorites, too. I’m smiling at your comment about being unsure that WAIT was the word God was giving to you – – I’ve done that, too. But, as we’ve learned—HE always knows what we need!

My one word for this year is REACH. I want to be open to REACH others with the message of Christ’s love and what He’s done for us on the cross. Even if I reach out in small ways to others, if that helps someone, that’s what I want to do.

I hope this year will be filled with many special blessings for you and your family.
    Sending gentle hugs, sweet friend!

    1. Patti Jo, what a lovely word with such an important meaning! And, yes, He does always know what we need. You already REACH so many with your friendship and kindness. I’ll pray for you as you continue to REACH many more for Christ’s glory. Wishing you and all your family a good year ahead!
