DECEMBER NEWSLETTER-THE LIGHT OF CHRISTMAS-Birthday cake, book review, and holiday scones

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

~~John 8:12 (KJV)

FAMILY TRADITIONS-BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR JESUS

As we prepare our celebrations of Jesus’ birth, I imagine we’re all planning the decorations, gifts, and foods for a joyous holiday. Our family has many Christmas traditions which I treasure. A special cake is central to our festivities because we’re reminded of the “reason for the season.” Our grandchildren now participate in decorating Jesus’ birthday cake.

Jesus’ birthday cake decorated by our youngest grandchildren last year.

And as Christians, our hearts are preparing for the faith, hope, and love of the season. Our hearts are filled with gratefulness for our Savior. We live in JOY because we will someday be standing in His LIGHT and be greeted with His LOVING EMBRACE.

BOOK REVIEWWISHING FOR MISTLETOE by Robin Lee Hatcher

I just finished reading Wishing for Mistletoe, a charming inspirational romance story. Author Robin Lee Hatcher always writes such heart-touching books. This one is perfect for your Christmas reading list. Plus there is a featured cupcake shop on the island! (As a reader of my blog, you know I love the mention of treats!) My five-star review is below.

Wishing for Mistletoe by Robin Lee Hatcher

A delightful Christmas-filled romance! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I completely enjoyed this book which is filled with the spirit of Christmas….warm holiday festivities, new beginnings, and sharing faith with friends.

In an attempt to break through writer’s block, author Ariel Highbridge commits to spending the winter season on ice-bound Sanctuary Island in Lake Huron. Her temporary neighbor, widower Tom Fuller, and his daughter become instrumental in helping her find peace with the isolated life in the community.

And what a fun time to enjoy this charming small town! SNOW, preparations for a Christmas festival, a “right up Ariel’s alley” children’s holiday writing contest, and a yummy cupcake shop. Author Robin Lee Hatcher writes such a sweet “new beginnings” romance developing between Ariel and Tom, despite a few bumps long the way.

For a story filled with the warm feelings of Christmas, I highly recommend Wishing for Mistletoe. You will delight in the preparations for the holiday with gatherings of friends, childlike anticipation, plus a hopeful and loving relationship developing. The conclusion is absolutely charming.

Favorite quote: “For food in a world where many walk in hunger; for faith where many walk in fear; for friends in a world where many walk alone, we give You thanks, O Lord. Amen.”

To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

~~Psalm 30:12 (KJV)

The month of November provides a time to focus on gratefulness. I’m thankful for so many blessings in my life. As the weather cools here in the Southwest, we enter perfect desert hiking conditions…cooler temperatures, colorful wildflowers, and beautiful vistas. We are fortunate to enjoy great trails during this time of year.

Desert mountain vistas.

Though it has been rainy, we were still surprised to discover water in a usually dry canyon on a favorite trail.

TWO BOOK REVIEWS

A Father’s Dream by Heidi Ennis

Heidi Ennis is a new-to-me author. Her historical romance book, A Father’s Dream, takes the reader on a journey to the Pacific Northwest of the late 19th century and blends Native American and Scandinavian culture in an exciting adventure. And what an evocative cover!

MY REVIEW of A Father’s Dream

An exciting love story of courage and fortitude in the rugged Pacific Northwest! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Father’s Dream takes the reader on an unforgettable journey during the 1880’s from Europe to New York City, then to the Pacific coast on a hopeful quest to fulfill the dream of owning a Washington Territory homestead.

The characters are wonderfully complex. I admired the courage and fortitude of Swedish immigrant Johanna Oman as she faced tragic situations to claim the land her father hoped would provide a new beginning for his family. Even with doubts along the way, her faith sustains her. Native American Mahkah “John” Haylaku, a member of a Columbia River tribe, is a worthy hero, handsome and strong, who overcame childhood abuse to become a compassionate protector.

Their relationship begins when he reluctantly agrees to be Johanna’s guide to locate her property. Their travel through the rugged wilderness is fascinating…immersed in the vivid landscape, dealing with the treacherous trail conditions, and facing the dangers of criminal elements. As they encounter many heart-stopping challenges, their commitment and love for each other grows.

I enjoyed the cultural details of the native customs of John’s people and the Swedish heritage of Johanna’s world. The ending is absolutely amazing….leaving me with tears and smiles…the best kind of romance! If you enjoy epic historical tales, I highly recommend this faith-filled story!

Favorite quote: “The strength of women. We are strong when we are connected. We give all to those we love, but we do it with the strength of those who have gone before us, those who have loved us and sacrificed for us.”

MY REVIEW of A Christmas Inheritance

A perfect set of faith-filled Christmas novellas with the connected themes of inherited treasures and second chances. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

His Christmas Refuge by Tanya Stowe

Kurt Worley receives an unexpected inheritance from his uncle…a trailer park located back in his Arizona hometown…a place he left behind because of his dysfunctional childhood. He expected the property to be given to his high school girlfriend, Trish, who spent many years helping his Uncle Chris run and update the trailer park into a fun resort community, while raising her two children after her husband passed away. In this story, I enjoyed the characters, the revelations of secrets, and the themes of forgiveness and doing the right thing. What a fun group of individuals at the RV community….creating a “found family”…. taking care of each other…in the spirit of Christmas!

A Montana Christmas Promise by Myra Johnson

Since he’d worked for many years managing his benefactors’ apple orchard, Andrew Norwood had expected to inherit the farm after the widow died. However, it was surprisingly passed on to city girl Eleanor McKnight. She reluctantly arrives in the small rural community after the aunt she’d never met bequeathed the property to her. The untangling of emotions between the couple provide an interesting road to romance. I loved the details of the Christmas festival preparations, including all the delicious apple treats, and the lovely Rose of Sharon ring mentioned in the story. The warm ending fills the heart with the holiday spirit of the season.

The Prodigal Preacher’s Christmas Homecoming by Delia Latham

When Kale Mitchell returns to Sweetsong, Oregon to the house he inherited from his parents, he is greeted by his childhood friend, Dia Monday. As the prodigal preacher takes his father’s place as pastor, “Diamond” helps him reintegrate into the community he left in disgrace. I enjoyed their discovery of the inherited wooden chest which moves their relationship toward a sweet and satisfying ending.

If you are like me and enjoy reading holiday stories which uplift the heart, I highly recommend this set of Christmas novellas to fill you with the feel-good spirit of the season….plus make you excited to prepare for the special time with delicious treats and festive decorations.

DISNEYLAND 70th ANNIVERSARY

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

~~Proverbs 17:6 (KJV)

We were so fortunate to gather with our family during October for a memorable vacation in Disneyland. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed many trips to the theme park. This was the first time all six of our grandchildren were there together. What a special time….riding various favorite attractions and sampling many treats. (Churros, ice cream sundaes, and pumpkin spice beignets!) The grand finale of the visit included dinner and a view of the fireworks from the Tomorrowland Terrace. Fabulous memories!

BOOK REVIEWWHISPERS FROM YESTERDAY by Robin Lee Hatcher

For contemporary romance readers, I’m recommending a book by award-winning author Robin Lee Hatcher. Whispers From Yesterday won the 2000 Christy Award for Excellence in Christian Fiction. I’m so glad I recently downloaded this heartfelt story! Since I have my mother-in-law’s diaries, I found the “whispers” from the past quite touching…glimpses into another time.

WHISPERS FROM YESTERDAY by Robin Lee Hatcher

What a wonderful story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A beautiful romance unfolds between Karen and Dusty, two broken people who have felt unloved in the past. With a hidden secret revealed through old journals and the sorting through of complications from the past, there are challenges to overcome if they are to develop a true relationship.

I especially liked the strong faith elements expressed throughout the book since these truths are essential to the healing process. While reading, a mix of emotions filled my heart as the couple struggled with their feelings. Grandmother Sophia, with her faithful strength developed over the years, comforted and encouraged both of them along the way. The resolution was deeply satisfying. Simply a wonderful story I highly recommend!

Favorite quote: I’m ready whenever You say, Lord. It’s been a good life, and You’ve blessed me in abundance.

HEALING HEARTS: A TURQUOISE TREASURES ROMANCE

JULY NEWSLETTER-SCULPTURES, BOOK RECOMMENDATION, & LAVENDER #TEATIME TREATS

An Independence Day display of historic flags of the United States of America.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

~~Philippians 4:7 (KJV)

With various situations this summer, some time spent in The Word helps to refresh our thoughts and hearts. We start our day with a devotion, read a passage from the Bible, then use our prayer list to cover the many concerns we bring to our Lord. God offers peace to fill our hearts and comfort our minds.

EXPLORING OUTDOOR SCULPTURES

This summer, a morning walk brought the joy of viewing outdoor sculptures. Here are three of our favorites. The first, titled SNAFU, is fittingly nicknamed “The French Fries.” The second one, Whispers and Silence, is carved from glistening marble from the Yule quarry, special to us because we lived a few miles from this historic Colorado quarry. The third, Educator, Teacher, Friend, depicting a teacher telling stories to children, is my favorite because of my background as a kindergarten and preschool teacher.

SUMMER READING SUGGESTION

I’ve just started this new release, If I Fall for You, by Myra Johnson, but already I’m engaged with this second book in the Montana Mercies Romance series.

ABOUT THE BOOK

THE BLURB: He’s barely holding his family together. She’s trying to rebuild hers from the ashes. When heartbreak threatens their tentative romance, will they fall apart—or fall into something more?

Dog trainer Luke Daniels feels he must take responsibility for running his emotionally detached father’s ranch and for the mental health of his sister who is recovering from a tragic accident.

Shannon Halsey is trying to be a responsible mother to her precious son, Tate. Her husband’s death before the child was born has caused her to have episodes of deep depression.

The two meet at an arts and craft fair after Shannon’s old car breaks down. As they find themselves brought together by circumstances, a friendship develops.

From the back cover copy: If I Fall for You is an emotionally rich Christian romance about second chances, hard-won forgiveness, and love that mends the deepest wounds.

I’ve enjoyed all the stories I’ve read by author Myra Johnson, so I can definitely recommend her books. To find out more, check her website: www.myrajohnson.com

JUNE NEWSLETTER-HIKING, WILDFLOWERS, AND A BOOK REVIEW!

22 Bless the Lord, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul.

~~Psalm 103:22 (KJV)

June has been filled with views of God’s glorious creation.

During the first month of summer, my husband and I enjoyed hiking in the mountains among spectacular fields of wildflowers. On a recent hike, yellow arrowleaf balsamroot blossoms surrounded the trail for over a mile! The beautiful views certainly remind us of His glory! During troubled times, we lift our eyes to the mountains and our souls are refreshed as we pause to appreciate our many blessings. We see God’s promises displayed by His glorious creation. We know He will provide for those who love Him.

BOOK REVIEW

A COZY MYSTERY, DYING TO SELL, BY ELLERY ADAMS AND TINA RADCLIFFE, launched last week as a top new release on Amazon.

Welcome back to Hope Street Church, where friendships are formed, fresh starts are encouraged, and mysteries are solved . . .

MY REVIEW

Fun cozy mystery! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you enjoy solving cozy mysteries, the Hope Street Church series is for you. I like these books because of the small town community charm and the admirable main characters who are good friends who solve local crimes.

In Dying to Sell, a real estate agent with questionable ethics has been murdered at the home of one of Grammy Lee’s friends. The Bible study group is anxious to solve this mystery to help the older ladies feel safe. There are so many possible suspects and motives, it’s hard to decide on the culprit. Though unsuccessful, I had fun trying to solve the crime.

In this story, the heartwarming granddaughter/grandmother relationship between main character Cooper Lee, owner of a vintage collectibles shop, and her grandmother, Grammy Lee, was developed more. The two showed their treasured appreciation for each other in funny and sweet ways.

Since I’m a romantic at heart, I especially loved the touching scene at the end of this story. During the series, Chef Jon Eason and Cooper have slowly realized their feelings for each other, so the last scene is a perfect conclusion to this intriguing book. If you like well-written cozy mysteries with threads of faith and touches of romance, you will enjoy Dying to Sell.

(As a bonus, we again get to savor treats from Magnolia’s Marvels. The deliciousness is served throughout the book, and there are some recipes in the back. Maple cinnamon scones and/or cranberry white chocolate cookies anyone?)

*I received a digital review copy from the publisher, Beyond the Page Publishing, through NetGalley with no requirement to write a positive review. This is my honest opinion.

For more information about Dying to Sell, check out Tina Radcliffe’s website. www.TinaRadcliffe.com

TEATIME TREATS

Since we’ve been out on the trails extensively this month, I haven’t baked the usual treats for our teatime. I’m serving a quick tea of cookies and Constant Comment, one of my favorites. HOWEVER, included at the back of the book are some recipes for the famous Magnolia’s Marvels goodies…..including Maple Cinnamon Scones which I will definitely be trying as soon as I get back to baking!

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I pray you feel our Lord’s comforting presence during the months ahead. What ways do you refresh your soul? Do you have a favorite Bible verse you keep in your heart for strength and comfort?

With blessings, Sherida

With the end of November approaching, our grateful hearts are filled with thanks for our blessings….family, friends, and food. I appreciate the readers who purchased my novel, Healing Hearts: A Turquoise Treasures Romance. Because of your interest in my story, I’m beyond grateful to donate to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (S.A.D.S.) on behalf of my grandson. THANK YOU! I was invested in the touching situations Cody and Hannah found themselves experiencing in Bluebell Canyon, Colorado. Dog trainer Cody Beckett is the guardian of his best friend’s daughters, while teacher Hannah Simpson is the girls’ new teacher. The matchmaking twins want to bring Cody and their teacher together. Could a happily ever after be possible for them? Could they have a second chance at love and family…a fresh start?

KINDLING CHRISTMAS IN WISHING BRIDGE by Ruth Logan Herne

MY REVIEW

A warmhearted Christmas story…touched with a bit of mystery! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I completely enjoyed this festive book filled with small town charm, Christmas holiday cheer, and sweet romance…not to mention a hint of mystery.

Nora Corrigan and her daughter returned to Wishing Bridge to help her ailing parents run their store. After both parents pass, she discovers their desperate financial state. The necessary sale of the business and house property leave Nora with limited resources for the future and no place to live.

Luke Talbot has returned to his hometown, a place of bad memories and a traumatic childhood, to help the town economy by building a manufacturing and distribution center for his expanding coffee empire.

When Nora fails to see an oncoming car, Luke saves her life by pushing her out of the way of danger. As Luke helps Nora get “back on her feet,” their attraction to each other developes.

Their kindling relationship was sweet to watch as Luke aids Nora with remodeling the drab house of his childhood in order to provide a stable home for her daughter. Spunky Emma is a strong child as she cheerfully adapts to the changes and losses in her young life. A mysterious town visitor adds intriguing questions throughout the story. Of course, I loved the holiday sparkle of decorations, the “Journey to Bethlehem” pageant preparations, and the holiday treats. (You don’t want to miss the special pecan-topped sweet potato pie!)

Ruth Logan Herne’s Wishing Bridge series has been filled with delightful small town folks who care for each other and provide inspiration for walking with faith. It was fun to revisit the people brought together many years ago by Hannah’s Hope, a refuge for troubled teens. I highly recommend you add this book to your holiday reading list. You’ll definitely turn the last page with Christmas spirit warming your heart.

Favorite quotes:

“But sometimes we’re doing people a favor by letting them help……It makes people feel good to help and that’s not a bad thing.”

“We focus on the here and now because that’s where we have the greatest effect. Pick what we can change and do that.”

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. ~~Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

Was June as fast a whirlwind for you as it was for me? It was a surprise to realize the first month of summer is winding down. Since we were blessed during the month with amazing family celebrations, I’m savoring the special get-togethers and memories we made…birthdays of loved ones, school graduations and promotions of our grandchildren, the Father’s Day blessings of my husband and our two sons (and their wives) as amazing parents, and the thankfulness of being married to my best friend for fifty-three years. A good life, indeed.

MY REVIEW OF COLE AND LAILA ARE JUST FRIENDS BY BETHANY TURNER

What a fun “fake-date” romp through New York City!  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this entertaining romance! The situation: Cole Kimball and Laila Olivet have been small town friends forever. The change: Cole is driven to leave his hometown for the big city. The perfect scene: Experiencing a fake-date through the streets and pop-culture icons of New York City. The perfect line: “Hey there. Did somebody call for a Lyft?” (This line, at exactly the right time, made me smile with delight.)

Cole and Laila are good people, treating each other and everyone they know with compassion. The fascinating relationship between Cole and Laila, held my interest as they reevaluated their connection. Even though I wasn’t sure how their experiment would end, I admired the trust, selflessness and love they gave each other. What would be best for each of them? Great ending, great humor, great small town vibes and great examples of friendship.

I’ve read many of Bethany Turner’s books and enjoyed them all. If you’re a rom-com devotee or like friends-to-more themes, I highly recommend this story! (Chocolate-chip pancakes, anyone?)

Favorite quotes:

“I think, in a way, I’m sort of hoping you realize it doesn’t matter where we are, as long as we’re together.”

“And if there is a hierarchy, how dare anyone minimize friendship? Isn’t friendship everything?”

“Well, I guess my grandmother was my first teacher. And she taught me that food is love….She used to tell me that when you didn’t know what else to do for someone, you should feed them….And sometimes you just needed to feed them so they knew they weren’t alone.”

*I was provided a copy of this book by NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction. I was not required to write a positive review.

TRAIL TRAVELS

We spend a bit of time a hiking trail far different from our local desert area. Seeing the different flora…and the cooler temperatures….was a refreshing experience. We loved the coastal views. Best of all was trekking with our family!

GIFT IDEAS…WHAT A FUN FIND!

An author I admire, Tina Radcliffe, recommended a small business which creates beautiful stickers with faith-filled messages. Kate, of The Adopt Shoppe, makes “little billboards for your heart” which were perfect gifts for my grandkids as they progressed to the next school level. Plus with our outdoor emphasis, these stickers work well for our hiking water bottles. Aren’t they lovely? Check out the website at: http://www.TheAdoptShoppe.com. (BTW: Kate’s customer service is great!)

Thank you for joining me for #teatime! What special blessings did you savor during June? May your summer be filled with faith-filled treasured blessings! Have a safe and fun Independence Day celebration!

You’re invited to my #teatime review of A TASTE FOR CRIME by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe!

For by grace ye are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

~~Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)

ABOUT THE BOOK

Welcome back to Hope Street Church, where friendships are formed, fresh starts are encouraged, and mysteries are solved . . .

When a scathing review by a prominent food critic threatens to ruin the career of local celebrity chef Anton Parsley, he turns to Cooper and her Bible study group for help. Cooper’s boyfriend was once mentored by the beloved chef, and Cooper will do anything she can to support his struggling restaurant. But before she can figure out how to restore the chef’s good reputation, the food critic is found murdered in his restaurant. Suddenly, Cooper and the gang must go from propping up the chef to tracking down a killer.

It’s well known that the food critic had built a lucrative career with her bombastic reviews, but as Cooper and her friends look into her background, they discover that she may not have been who she appeared to be. Suspecting that secrets from her past will lead them to whoever wanted her dead, the Bible study group cook up a scheme to trap the culprit. The risks are high and may just get them burned, but they’re dead-set on catching the killer before the chef’s career is toast . . .

Includes heavenly recipes from Magnolia Lee’s kitchen!

MY REVIEW

A fun who-done-it mystery! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Hope Street Church Mysteries series is quite enjoyable. Each book can be read as a stand alone, so you can jump in anytime. Cooper Lee is the main character in each story, along with her friends in the Sunrise Bible Study group. This newest addition to the collection finds the sleuthing members of the group determined to help absolve a local chef of the murder of a food critic. The victim was found in the chef’s restaurant….and the chef is the uncle/mentor of Cooper’s boyfriend.

As always, their plans for investigating the crime are interesting to delve into. The characters are all intriguing. I appreciate the reliance on their faith as they go about the work to solve the crime. Plus there are some featured treats from Magnolia’s Marvels….definitely a good thing for those of us who are reader foodies.

If you like to read cozy mysteries written by award-winning authors, you will be glad you picked up A Taste for Crime. Be sure to check out the recipes at the end!

Favorite quotes:
“Ephesians 2:8 tells us we have been saved through faith. Faith is a gift from God. Trust is simply the confidence in that faith even when the world tells you otherwise.”

Today I’m serving this sweet dessert, topped with confectioners sugar drizzle and sprinkled with sparkling sugar….a perfect teatime delight!

Thank you for joining me for tea treats and a book review. Do you enjoy reading books which highlight food items? What cozy mysteries have you read lately? I pray your springtime is filled with fun activities, inspiring stories and just the right amount of special treats!

With blessings,

Sherida

Are you blessed by challenges? #TuesdayTea March devotional

Dressed in full armor, ready to accept the challenge.

BIBLE VERSE

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Ephesians 6:11 NIV

Are you facing challenges? Health issues? Work-related stresses? Relationship issues?

When we must work through difficult times, we don’t usually see the reason or meaning for the struggles we endure. After we’ve gone through the fire, we can reflect back on what we’ve gained. Strength. Confidence. Humility. Empathy. Gratefulness.

Bright red cast and crutches

Recently I had complicated foot surgery. If you know me, you know hiking is integral to my well-being….physically, emotionally and spiritually. Four weeks and counting with no weight bearing. Crutches are a pain…literally! Then I’ll face a couple of months with an “orthopedic boot” and then intensive physical therapy. No hiking or neighborhood walks. The hardest challenge is accepting I’m dependent on my husband for many daily tasks. He’s great about helping, but I don’t like limits on my abilities.

Even though this recovery is not the worst health challenge my husband and I have faced, this time of waiting is giving me plenty of opportunity to trust my faith…to stay positive and hopeful about the ultimate outcome. After this, I’ll deeply appreciate being able to walk across a room without the aid (hinderance?) of crutches. I’m clinging to the message in one of the Bible passages I think of when I need strength….fortitude for any and every challenge faced.

BIBLE VERSE

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:13-17

Doesn’t this passage fill you with hope and confidence? No matter the challenge before you, these words give strength to face the difficulty ahead. To pass through the fire….of pain, despair and fear. Our Lord prepares us to do battle with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation and His Word.

Put on the full armor of God. ~Ephesians 6:11 NIV

TRAVEL

We enjoy attending Renaissance festivals, a little taste of the sights and sounds of the past. The jousting knights are the perfect example of putting on armor before the battle. At the Arizona Renaissance Festival near Phoenix, many attendees wear elaborate costumes. Colorful wares are offered in cute shoppes. Tunes from bagpipes and beating drums can be heard. The air has scents of wood fires and roasting turkey legs. There was even a cute tea shop, perfect for my tea-loving self.

Tea shop and apothecary

So today I’m serving Shakespeare’s Romance Tea—white tea, raspberry leaf, hibiscus and peach.

Various jars of teas sold at the Renaissance Faire.

If you’re interested in Renaissance fairs, I recommend the elaborate Arizona Renaissance Festival held on weekends during February and March. For details, visit http://www.arizonarenfestinfo.com.

BOOK NEWS

Some of my author friends have books releasing soon.

LORD OF HER HEART by Sherrinda Ketchersid

Fitting in with the theme of jousting knights, Sherrinda Ketchersid’s debut, Lord of Her Heart, is available May 14, published by Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas. To escape an evil plot, Lady Jocelyn dons a disguise, hoping to find out the truth about her father’s situation. Jousting tournament champion Malcolm, who desires a peaceful life on his own manor, discovers her deception. They must learn to trust each other in this story of romance set in medieval times. Sounds intriguing!

Patti Jo Moore’s third book in her Emerald Coast Romance series, In Tune With Romance, releases later this month with Forget Me Not Romances. We can anticipate another sweet romance as we visit the charming beach town of Coastal Breeze. We’re all ready for some warm breezes, I imagine!

A MOST INCONVENIENT LOVE by Ruth Logan Herne

Currently I’m reading A Most Inconvenient Love, by Ruth Logan Herne. This historical, set on the prairies of South Dakota, is engaging as a school marm and a lumber baron find their way to a happy ever after. I always enjoy this author’s style of sprinkling wisdom among the pages of a great story.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, we thank you for the courage you give us for face the challenges in our lives. Your Word fortifies us with truth, righteousness, faith and salvation. Please be with us as we walk toward the light with joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Are you facing challenges? May we pray for you? Have you walked a challenging path and come through stronger because of your experience? What Scriptures do you treasure when faced with difficulties?

I’ve felt the prayers of those of you praying for my surgery. I’d appreciate continuing prayers for my foot to heal completely so I’ll be out on the mountain trails this summer. Thank you for prayers, sharing and joining me for Tuesday Tea.

With blessings and prayers always,

Sherida

September! Do you need time to REFRESH? #TuesdayTea

Welcome to #TuesdayTea…just a bit early! Today we’re celebrating REFRESH, so I’m pouring invigorating chai spice black tea by Stash or a calming herbal camomile by Celestial Seasonings.

September brings the beginning of autumn and the start of the new school year.

As a former kindergarten teacher, I have a collection of Caldecott Award books and alphabet picture books.

For many years, I was a teacher, both in early elementary levels and in preschools. The new school year always brought a refreshing new beginning. A new assortment of unique kids. The smell of wax crayons. Bulletin boards full of color. Shouts and laugher on the playground.

Fall colors along the road to the trailhead.

But now as September arrives, I have a quieter time to breathe in the refreshing cooler air, carrying hints of pine. During the start of autumn, the mountain hiking available near us is special. Colors of fall…reds, golds and maroon…paint the landscape and a chill touches the wind as we hike through forests, passing creeks and climbing hillsides.

Recently, we followed a trail up a mountainside to have lunch on Sharkstooth Pass at an elevation of 12,000 feet above sea level.

Majestic Mount Hesperus stood beside us as we traveled along the path.

Even though we were slow on the climb up, we were refreshed along the way by the little creeks we crossed and by the chilly breeze blowing along the rocky slopes above the tree line. When we reached the pass, we stopped for lunch and marveled at the valley below and how far we’d come.

My husband and I both felt the presence of our Lord as we absorbed the beauty of His creation before us. We felt deeply refreshed.

To me, September is a time of refreshment after the heat and busy times of summer. I hope you are able to take time to refresh during this month.

SCRIPTURE

That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. Romans 15:32 (KJV)

PRAYER

Lord, we do get busy, pulled in so many directions. Help us appreciate the season of autumn as a time to breathe deeply, quiet our minds and refresh our spirits. Amen.

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS to refresh your heart….

Christmas with the Cowboy (Big Heart Ranch) by Tina Radcliffe (releases 9/18 and Kindle releases 10/1)

I’ve loved all the books featuring Big Heart Ranch, a home for forgotten children. Each story centers on one of the three siblings helping to run the ranch. Tina Radcliffe’s writing adds humor, along with faith, to create fun and inspiring romances. This latest book is filled with Christmas spirit. I love this story…and will post a review next week! 🎄

The Sound of Distant Thunder (The Amish of Weaver’s Creek) by Jan Drexler (releases 9/18)

Though I haven’t read this book, I always enjoy author Jan Drexler faith-touched historical stories. This is the first in a new series. From the description on Amazon, it sounds good.

”From the talented pen of Jan Drexler comes this brand new Amish series set against the backdrop of the Civil War. She puts her characters to the test as they struggle to reconcile their convictions and desires while the national conflict threatens to undermine and engulf their community.”

At Home in Wishing Bridge by Ruth Logan Herne (releases 10/2)

If you like small town stories with warm down home characters, you will like this contemporary romance. This second book set in Wishing Bridge, New York, brings Dr. Ethan Brandenburg and nurse practitioner Thea Anastas together to temporarily bring medical assistance to the small town. They did not plan to be stuck in the tiny rural area, but He has an even better future ahead for these two people. A faith-filled story of leaving the past behind for brighter tomorrows.

WRITING NEWS

After completing an online class titled Monster Revisions, I have many ideas for improving my manuscript as I work through the revising process. In another class, I learned about submitting short stories for magazine publication and find this smaller word count goal may work for me.

Thank you for joining me for #TuesdayTea! What ways or in what places do you feel refreshed? I hope you treasure being refreshed the by the start of a new season.

Blessings and prayers always,

Sherida
