Traveling and a #teatime review of The Baby Inheritance by Tina Radcliffe

Welcome to teatime and a travel update featuring Tina Radcliffe’s newest romance, The Baby Inheritance. I’m serving cinnamon rolls!

ABOUT THE BABY INHERITANCE

An infant in need…

But she’s a package deal.

After the tragic loss of his best friends, rancher Drew Morgan willingly accepts guardianship of their six-month-old baby—until he learns big-city professor Sadie Ross has temporary custody as well. Opposites in every way, the pair now has eight weeks together on Drew’s ranch to decide who will become the permanent parent. Could this makeshift family turn into something real…before the deadline is up?

MY REVIEW

A heartwarming winner…full of sweet romance, a sweet baby and sweet treats! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tina Radcliffe is a favorite author, and her newest book, The Baby Inheritance, is another heartwarming winner full of sweet romance, a sweet baby and sweet treats!

Self-sufficient college professor, Dr. Sadie Ross, grew up in foster care and has no family, only focusing on her career. Cowboy Drew Morgan, received an architectural degree, but manages his family’s ranch along with a passel full of brothers and Gramps. When these two opposite personalities must decide on the guardianship of a baby with medical issues, many emotions are involved. Who is the best choice to raise this sweet baby girl?

The struggles of adjusting to their new roles as baby caretakers, on top of wanting to make the best decision for baby Mae, are heart-touching as both Sadie and Drew want to honor their friends’ legacy. The choices are very different, with pros and cons to be considered. Selflessly they work through the process as the attraction between them grows.

The Baby Inheritance is the first book in a new series featuring the brothers of the Lazy M Ranch. Author Tina Radcliffe knows how to write strong family stories with engaging true-to-life characters as she adds fun humor, touches of faith and perfect romance…plus a sprinkling of yummy treats featured on the pages. (Yes, I’m a foodie who loves the mention of virtual goodies!)

If you love heartfelt stories of overcoming challenges with faith and hope, this is a not-to-be-missed set of books! I’m already anticipating the upcoming romances of these cowboy brothers and the women who will come to love them.

Favorite quotes:

“The satisfaction of parenting comes at unexpected and cherished moments. While there are many blessings, there are also many challenges.”

“You have to choose to have a happy ending.”

*I received a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. I’m delighted to offer my honest opinion.

TEATIME TREATS

I’m serving cinnamon rolls from Holiday Inn Express with Bigelow tea. Why? I wasn’t home to do my usual baking. My husband’s hobby is hiking sections of the Continental Divide Trail, a National Scenic Trail which extends 3,000 miles between Mexico and Canada. Though I join him on some parts, I’m usually my husband’s “trail angel” while he does the hiking. I drop him off at a trailhead and pick him up after he’s finished a section.

The hotel we stayed in recently offered cinnamon rolls during breakfast, so this treat made a good photo with the book. I imagine these are not as good as the cinnamon rolls housekeeper Bess Lowder bakes for her crew in The Baby Inheritance, but I look forward to these sweet treats whenever we stay at a Holiday Inn.

The Baby Inheritance features so many delicious goodies. Do check Tina Radcliffe’s blog to find some of the recipes. Now I’m inspired to resume baking in my kitchen to try them all. Ricotta cookies, chocolate sheet cake, chocolate cookies with macadamia nuts and white chips, cannoli, gooseberry pie, maple bars…yes, plenty of yummy projects to keep me busy.

TRAVELING ALONG THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL

My husband and I share a passion for hiking. Being out in God’s amazing creation inspires us. Here are some photos of the recent trails. As in life, sometimes the trail is easy with well-marked signs, sometimes it’s rocky with stumbling hazards to trip you up, and sometimes it’s just a walk along the road.

Thank you for joining me for my teatime review of The Baby Inheritance by Tina Radcliffe. Don’t you just love stories with babies? What is your favorite treat to bake when you want a snack?

With blessings and prayers, Sherida

Teatime with a cozy mystery, Methods of Malice, by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe!

Are you ready to relax with tea, coffee or another beverage? Please enjoy your drink selection along with a Banana Bar while reading my review of the newest release in the Hope Street Church Mystery series. The recipe for today’s snack is included at the end of the book!

ABOUT METHODS OF MALICE

Welcome back to Hope Street Church, where friendships are formed, fresh starts are encouraged, and mysteries are solved . . .

The Hope Street Community Theater is staging It’s a Wonderful Life as a fundraiser, and Cooper and the Bible study group are all taking part. They’ve also managed to land the help of a famous Broadway director who’s trying to clean up his image after a scandal, and he travels to Richmond along with his star actress and staff. But the director’s entourage epitomize the worst of theater personalities, with petty grievances and jealousies stirring up more drama off the stage than on. And when the assistant director is found murdered in her hotel suite, the list of possible suspects is longer than a red carpet.

Unwilling to stand by with a murderer in their midst, Cooper and her friends get to work ferreting out clues and surveilling the staff, including a dangerously inept set technician as well as the director’s current and former love interests. Despite inexplicable and terrifying stage “accidents” threatening to derail their investigation and the play, the intrepid amateur sleuths know the show must go on. Their only prayer is to set a trap and successfully catch a killer before it’s curtains for Cooper . . .

Includes heavenly recipes from Magnolia Lee’s kitchen!

MY REVIEW

What a page-turner! I loved it!

I was so captivated by the characters and the mystery they found themselves involved with, I couldn’t read this book fast enough. The Sunrise Bible study group of Hope Street Church is performing in a community play to fund a new bus for the local senior center. A famous director is offering his talent to the production, bringing along his entourage. When one of the theater ensemble members is found deceased, all kinds of questions arise.

The sleuthing is intriguing. Between the plot twists and various possibilities to consider, I enjoyed trying to figure out the who-done-it solution. I especially loved the interaction of the characters as faithful friends and encouragers. With the developing romance between Cooper and Jon, I’m eager to find out about their future.

And with a chef and a caterer in the story, the foodie details are the icing on the cake…literally! I need a teatime break with a Magnolia Lee treat. Psst….there are recipes at the end of the book.

If you love a good mystery…the cozy type…with fascinating characters, you will also be captivated while reading Methods of Malice by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe. I highly recommend this book!

Favorite quotes:

“We’re here to equip ourselves with the Word so that we can deal with the challenges of another week in the world.”

“This week, let our focus be prayer. … Allowing our prayers to overflow with joy as we focus on others instead of ourselves.”

*I was provided a copy of this book through NetGalley. This review is my honest opinion.

#TEATIME INTERVIEW WITH CARRIE SCHMIDT @meezcarrie

I first ”met” Carrie Schmidt in Seekerville and as an organizer of the Christian Fiction Readers’ Retreat. She is the owner of the popular Reading is My SuperPower blog and co-owner and founder of JustRead Publicity Tours. Now she’s entered the author realm as the one of the authors of a writers’ toolbox book…. Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers…. to help aspiring authors break into the world of publishing while also sharing valuable insights for published writers. Her section describes how to reach readers….a perfect area for her to point writers toward the keys of successfully opening the doors of readers’ hearts.

GETTING PAST THE PUBLISHING GATEKEEPERS

A QUICK INTERVIEW WITH CARRIE

Carrie graciously answered a few questions about her new writing and publishing experience.

SHERIDA: Since my blog features teatime, do you prefer coffee, tea or something else? What do you like as a treat with your beverage of choice?

CARRIE: Ooooo…. do I have to give up my author card if I don’t like either coffee or tea? I’m really more of a diet Coke kinda gal with an occasional Snapple Apple drink or hot chocolate, depending on the temps outside. And as for a treat, I’m a fan of baked goods in just about any form – scones, muffins, cake, brownies… with my diet Coke of course to cancel out the calories. Hahaha!

SHERIDA: With all you are involved in, your life is already quite busy. I know you were reluctant to take on the task of writing a section of this book. What nudged you to accept the challenge?

CARRIE: A couple of things… First – and most importantly – I just felt God’s touch on my heart to do it. It’s not anything I can put into words other than just a peace-filled assurance that I was moving in the right direction. Secondly, we lost my beloved Dad to a blood cancer called multiple myeloma in December of last year. He, along with my mom, has been my biggest cheerleader when it comes to my blog and all the opportunities that have come from that in the last seven years. He always said he knew I’d write a book one day, and this seemed like a great chance to honor him and help authors at the same time ❤

SHERIDA: Now as you reflect back on the process of writing and publishing Gatekeepers, what surprised you during the experience?

CARRIE: How HARD it is! Haha! I have a new respect for authors and the labor of love it is to put words on a page and then get those words from rough draft to published page. Along with all the ‘extras’ that need to be done to launch a book baby out into the world. The work does not stop when you’ve finished writing the book, and while I knew that on one level now I definitely know it from experience!

SHERIDA: Congratulations of the release of your book, Carrie! Thank you for kindly answering my questions. Those times when God directs our paths are treasured moments. You made the right decision to go forward with writing your book. Your Dad is smiling…..as is Bonnie. Hugs!

TEATIME TREATS

KRINGLE

Before you read about Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers, grab a special almond Kringle, which I picked up on a recent trip to Seattle…..and of course a Diet Coke (or two) to cancel out those calories. *wink, wink*

ABOUT GETTING PAST THE PUBLISHING GATEKEEPERS

Remember when Dorothy finally reached the Emerald City only to be halted by the Gatekeeper, blocking her hopes of seeing the Great and Powerful Wizard?

The path to publication is like that. Agents, and Editors, and Publishers, oh, my! Each one is a barrier between you and a publishing contract.

But what if you understood what agents, editors, publishers, and readers really want?

If you’re struggling to get past the publishing gatekeepers, this book will give you a behind-the-scenes peek at how to win the heart of each type of publishing professional. In fact, Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers won’t just give you a peek—it will give you a guided tour. In this book, four publishing professionals—an agent, a publisher, an editor, and an influencer—share what it takes to unlock each “gate” within the publishing industry.

Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers is a must-have resource for all aspiring authors, and it offers insights to help multi-published authors as well.

What can you find specifically in Carrie’s section WINNING THE HEARTS OF READERS?

From Carrie: “I love that Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers doesn’t only address issues and questions that aspiring authors might have – I get to continue the conversation for published authors with topics such as:

  • where to find readers of your type of book
  • prioritizing your focus instead of trying to promote in all the places
  • how to determine which influencers truly want to help & which influencers are only in it for the free books
  • how (and how not) to approach influencers
  • what makes readers try a new-to-them author
  • the importance of cover, blurb, and author website must-haves in making a good first impression on readers
  • how to make word-of-mouth work for you
  • the importance of community in reader engagement
  • why your story matters”

My #TeaTime #review of Sabotaged Mission by Tina Radcliffe!

I’m thrilled to introduce you to the newest book by an amazing author. Known as an award-winning and bestselling contemporary romance author, Tina Radcliffe just released her first Love Inspired Suspense Inspirational Romance novel, Sabotaged Mission.

ABOUT SABOTAGED MISSION

Framed and on the run….With nowhere left to hide

When a failed mission leaves CIA operative MacKenzie “Mac” Sharp injured and her partner presumed dead, going off-grid is the only way to survive. But her old flame, CIA officer Gabe Denton has tracked her down and led a well-connected enemy right to her door. Now with someone trying to frame and kill her, working with Gabe is the only way to clear her name…and stay alive.

TEA TREAT-BANANA BREAD FROM MY MOTHER’S RECIPE

There is a softening moment in the story when Mac thinks of a sweet memory. “She remembered that Gabe once brought her banana bread he’d made. How odd that she should recall that right now.” For our treat today, banana bread seems like the perfect accompaniment with this review. Please help yourself to a slice of my mother’s famous banana bread! I’ll pour you a cup of tea…or coffee if you prefer.

MY REVIEW

Uplifting suspense! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Romance, suspense and faith…..what a combination!

Sabotaged Mission is definitely a page-turner, starting with a heart-pounding explosion at the very beginning and continuing with danger all along the way. As MacKenzie Sharp heals from an injury suffered during a failed CIA mission, her life is continually threatened. While being protected by her former boyfriend, Gabe Denton, a by-the-books CIA operative, she tries to figure out what went wrong with her last assignment. Why is she being framed for the incident? How is Gabe involved in her current situation?

Riveting action and a sweet rekindled romance held my interest as I tried to figure out the bad guy…among many possibilities and a few twists. In other books by Tina Radcliffe, I’ve enjoyed the lively and humorous banter between characters. Fortunately even in a suspense, she delivers her trademark sparkling comments. “Why didn’t you tell me I look like a home-improvement project gone bad?” And watch for the ready bag comment. “I’ve been doing it all wrong. Mine has extra socks.” Yes, I laughed out loud! Gotta love a hero like Gabe!

Sabotaged Mission is highly recommended for readers of romantic suspense who want an uplifting story. The faith elements, which highlight messages of forgiveness and trust, refresh the spirit.

Favorite quotes:

“If you can make it through the hard times, the good times will be all the sweeter.”

“I’ll improvise and pray.”

*I was given a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. I’m delighted to offer my honest opinion.

A #Teatime review of The Rancher’s Family Legacy by Myra Johnson

Welcome to my review of Myra Johnson’s The Rancher’s Family Legacy, the third book in her Ranchers of Gabriel Bend series.

ABOUT THE RANCHER’S FAMILY LEGACY

A future he didn’t want….

Could become the family he needs.

Building contractor Mark Caldwell is ready to inherit his grandfather’s horse ranch and put his traumatic past behind him—if he can survive working in Texas Hill Country for a year. But when his dog bonds with local caterer Holly Elliot’s son, Mark can’t refuse Holly’s request to be her son’s mentor. Can they put aside their differences long enough to open their hearts?

MY THOUGHTS

An amazing story of family strength and love! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Of the three friends establishing the River Bend Events and Wedding Chapel, Holly Elliot is the extraordinary caterer for the group. Much of her focus is directed at keeping her young, epileptic son safe. When building contractor Mark Caldwell shows up because of a stipulation in his grandfather’s will, sparks fly between the two, especially because of the attachment between Mark, his dog and Holly’s son. Emotions flare because of different personalities and some misunderstandings. Because of past heartbreaks, a great deal of healing is necessary before the couple can move forward.

I love how author Myra Johnson has woven the complex family dynamics into all three Ranchers of Gabriel Bend books, each revealing part of the feud which has caused difficulties. With love and faith, this endearing family strives to overcome the past hurts. I’ve enjoyed all the books in the series, and I’m sorry to say goodbye to this community of small town values. But I can now imagine these sweet characters continuing on with their lives, giving back to the town and supporting both extended families. I highly recommend this romance for its uplifting, feel-good emotions of faith and strong family bonds. And if you know me, the tearoom concept is definitely “my cup of tea.”

Favorite quotes:

“Life never goes quite as planned…..I try hard not to question God, but I do wonder why He lets some things happen….or doesn’t.”

“But knowing God cares, that He’s always with me, even in the pain, and even when I can’t feel His presence—it’s where I find the strength to face each day. It’s how I find gratitude for the good in my life right now.”

*I was given a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. I’m delighted to offer my honest opinion.

A #Teatime review of A HOME FOR HER DAUGHTER by Jill Weatherholt

A teatime celebration for A HOME FOR HER DAUGHTER.

Welcome to my #Teatime celebration of Jill Weatherholt’s newest inspirational romance, A Home for Her Daughter. Jill is a special friend and an amazing author. I’m thrilled to chat with you about this sweet contemporary story.

ABOUT A HOME FOR HER DAUGHTER

To give her daughter a brighter future, she must leave the past behind.

Inheriting a house, money and a camp is the fresh start Janie Edmiston has been praying for. But the will stipulates Janie must work with her childhood friend—and crush—Drew Brenner, to get the camp running…or lose it all. The newly divorced mother and the widower aren’t looking for love, but sometimes it takes a child to show two broken hearts the way forward…together.

MY REVIEW

I was immediately drawn into this story and couldn’t stop reading!

An uplifting book about two people dealing with past hurts and helping each other find happiness! What adventures are ahead for Janie and Drew as they work together to save a childhood camp and try to heal from difficult pasts.

Divorced single mom Janie Edmiston returns to Whispering Slopes, Virginia, with her charming daughter. She learns she has inherited a summer camp from a dear friend, but the lady’s will comes with conditions. She and her former close friend, Drew Brenner, must work together to restore and open Rocky River Camp by July 4, or neither will be left anything. Working so closely with a woman he was once attracted to is a concern for park ranger Drew. He prefers his solitary life on the trail after a devastating loss.

The hurtful situation Janie needed to recovery from and the terrible guilt Drew carried were difficult…almost impossible…obstacles to overcome, but through trusting in faith, support from their small town community and the desire to establish a home for precious little Riley, a sweet romance develops between this couple. I was completely engaged with this story. I highly recommend A Home for Her Daughter to those seeking an uplifting story of overcoming challenges to reach special dreams ….and a beautiful happily ever after. Joy can be just beyond life’s difficult times!

Favorite quote: “There’s nothing sweeter than a child who speaks from the heart.”

TEA AND TREATS

I’m serving Sparkling Lavender Sugar Shortbread cookies for our celebration, along with Lavender Lemon Gunpowder tea from New Mexico Tea Company. The violet tea pot was a gift from my mother, hand painted by a friend of hers. The reason I’m featuring lavender? Lavender is the favorite color of little Riley, Janie’s daughter. So let’s celebrate a lovely day and a good book!

Sparkling Lavender Sugar Shortbread Cookies

RECIPE FOR SPARKLING LAVENDER SUGAR SHORTBREAD COOKIES

In a food processor, blend together 1-1/4 cups flour and 3 Tablespoons sugar. Add 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces. Pulse until combined. The mixture will be crumbly. Turn out onto a cutting board. Sprinkle in 1 to 2 Tablespoons lavender-colored sparkling sugar. (I bought the lavender sugar from the Queen Mary Tea Shop in Seattle, Washington….my favorite place to celebrate with afternoon tea. To match a theme, you can use any color of decorator/course sugar. You could add a little flavoring, perhaps to go with the color….yellow course sugar with lemon extract would be good.) Knead together to disperse sugar. Flatten dough into a 5” x 8” rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Top with more colored sugar, if desired, patting in gently to stick to the dough. Put in the dough in a freezer for 15 minutes. Remove from the freezer and cut into 1 inch square cookies. Place each on a cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for about 15 minutes, watching carefully so the cookies don’t brown. Take them out of the oven and cool on the pan until set.

BIBLE SCRIPTURE

Thank you for joining the release celebration for A Home for Her Daughter…..a hopeful story of trusting God during difficult times. I pray you feel close to our Lord when you are faced with life’s challenges.

#TuesdayTea Review of READY TO TRUST by Tina Radcliffe

Meet Reece Rainbolt! What a hero! I’m so pleased you’ve stopped by to meet Reece and enjoy tea with Peachy Ginger Scones while we chat about Ready to Trust, the second book in Tina Radcliffe’s Hearts of Oklahoma series.

READY TO TRUST by Tina Radcliffe

ABOUT THE BOOK

Proving he’s a changed man could be his biggest challenge yet.

Rancher Reece Rainbolt’s shocked to learn he’s inherited half of Claire Ballard’s family farm—and that he’s a father. Now Claire’s determined to break ties with the man who once left her behind. But Reece will buy her half only on one condition: she must stay in town to help with the harvest…and let him get to know his little girl.

MY THOUGHTS

Reece Rainbolt of Rebel Ranch…..what a HERO!

Well….I don’t usually like bad boy heroes, but for Reece Rainbolt, I’m making an exception. Why my change of heart? Reece is the epitome of a self-sacrificing man, though still a bit stubborn. He’s learned from past mistakes and now does his best to live a faithful life as he helps his family and community. Plus he’s a gorgeous blue-eyed rancher! Did you see that cover?

I admired strong-willed single mom Claire Ballard. After inheriting half her father’s peach orchard, she has an overloaded plate of responsibilities. She stubbornly tries to handle everything by herself, including raising her adorable daughter, Zoe, who happens to look a lot like Reece.

Hmmm….can two hard-headed personalities reconcile their past mistakes and learn to trust each other? With the best interests of the precious five-year-old child at stake, this second chance couple provide a fun, humorous and touching path to a happily ever after. Of course they have some help along way as the small town folks add encouraging observations. I hope you like wise old ranch hand Willard Cornell as much as I do. He nudges his boss in the right direction with delightful quips.

I love every book by author Tina Radcliffe, but Ready to Trust is the best yet. If reading a story can convince me to forgive the wild guy hero, that’s a great romance! If you love amazing heroes, small town communities and heart-tugging romance, I recommend you put Ready to Trust (and heartthrob Reece) at the top of your TBR stack.

*I received a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. I’m delighted to offer my honest opinion.

TEA AND TREATS

Teatime-Peachy Ginger Scones and peach tea with Reece Rainbolt
Peachy Ginger Scones with Reece Rainbolt!

Since Reece and Claire are busy with the peach harvest in this story, Peachy Ginger Scones are the perfect accompaniment to this summer book. Of course we need tea, so a delightful, refreshing peach flavored tea is just right. Iced or hot?

RECIPE FOR PEACHY GINGER SCONES

Mix 1 cup of flour, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 scant teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut in 1/4 cup cold butter until mixture is crumbly.

Add 1/4 cup heavy cream, 1 small egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until just combined. Gently stir in 2 tablespoon chopped crystallized candied ginger and 1/4 cup chopped fresh peaches (no need to peel the fruit.).

Transfer dough to a floured surface and gently form into a disk about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into six triangular pieces. Place the scones on a baking sheet. (I like to use parchment paper.) If desired, sprinkle the scones with sparkling sugar.

Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve with peach preserves for extra peachy goodness.

These scones make a great base for peach shortcake, just split the scones, add sliced fresh peaches and top with whipped cream. Ahhh, a taste of summer!

Welcome to my #TuesdayTea review of Finding the Road Home by Tina Radcliffe!

WELCOME TO MY TUESDAY TEA CELEBRATION! I’m serving pie and chatting about a fun new book. Please settle in with a cup of cinnamon spice tea while I serve you a slice of Poor Man’s Pecan Pie. (I’ll tell you about that later.)

Finding the Road Home by Tina Radcliffe
FINDING THE ROAD HOME by Tina Radcliffe.
“Some paths need courage to follow….”

Tina Radcliffe, one of my favorite authors, is starting a new Love Inspired series, Hearts of Oklahoma, set in the fictional small town of Rebel, a community of charming characters where everyone is treated like family. I simply love the first book in the series, Finding the Road Home, which releases February 18 in paperback and March 1 for Kindle.

ABOUT THE BOOK

To care for her orphaned nieces and nephews, Daisy Anderson moved to a small town for a new deputy position— but now her job could be eliminated. With potential budget cuts looming, her only hope is to work with police chief Mitch Rainbolt to save their department’s funds. But can their fight for her job lead to something neither dared wish for: a future together?

MY REVIEW

Welcome to Rebel, Oklahoma, where hearts fall in love and everyone is treated like family!

Daisy Anderson arrives in town with her five orphaned nieces and nephews to begin her new job with the police department. Her heart-throb boss, Chief Mitch Rainbolt, is ready to offer her protection and help, but this is not what this self-sufficient woman wants.

With the story’s theme of facing the challenges encountered along the road of life, it’s encouraging to see how Mitch and Daisy embrace their trials with faith and learn to accept help from others. A great hope filled book accented with endearing children and humorous pages.

And the romance! I melted at the sweet dance scene, followed by a tender first kiss. Daisy and Mitch have obstacles to face on the way to their happily-ever-after, but it’s such fun to watch their love grow. And the charming epilogue is the perfect ending!

I was definitely anticipating author Tina Radcliffe’s newest series, Hearts of Oklahoma. In each of her books, she brings small towns to life. You feel wrapped in the warmth of a cozy community as you turn the pages. I fell in love with the town of Rebel with its lovable citizens, cute shops and nearby guest ranch. Did I mention there’s a bakery? Yep, my kind of story! I can’t wait for more books featuring Rebel, Oklahoma!

Favorite quote: “Sometimes you just have to step up to the plate and trust the good Lord will teach you how to bat.”

*I was given a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. I’m happy to offer my honest opinion.

TEATIME TREATS AT A STOP ON ROUTE 66

The title of the book is Finding the Road Home, Oklahoma is the setting of the new series and heroine Daisy’s specialty is pie, so I’m taking you on an excursion along the Mother Road, to the Rock Cafe in Stroud, Oklahoma, where the dessert special is Oatmeal Pie….“the poor man’s pecan pie”… at this historic Route 66 eatery we visited on a trip to Tulsa.

The Rock Cafe along Route 66 in Stroud, Oklahoma

The Rock Cafe was built in 1936 using stone left over from the construction of Route 66 which came through Stroud in 1926. The restaurant opened in 1939, becoming a popular stop for Greyhound bus travelers and long-distance truckers. In 2001, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and benefited from restoration work. After John Lasseter, the creator of the Pixar movie Cars, visited the cafe, he modeled the character Sally after the owner of the restaurant. The decor features memorabilia from the movie producers. Ready for a virtual beach retreat? See my #TuesdayTea review of IN TUNE WITH ROMANCE by Patti Jo Moore!

Welcome to my Tuesday Tea review of Patti Jo Moore’s third book in her Emerald Coast romance series, In Tune With Romance. Today we’re celebrating this inspirational romance book with a springtime tea treat of Lemon Scones. I’ll serve you a scone and a cup of lemon tea while we chat about this engaging book filled with the charming characters living in Coastal Breeze, Florida.

Teatime with lemon scones.

In her books, Patti Jo Moore creates wonderful characters. You feel like all the residents of Coastal Breeze, Florida, are your friends. Each book in her Emerald Coast Romance series features a different couple negotiating the way to a happily ever after. The charming beach town comes to life through perfect details. I definitely feel like I’m vacationing with friends when reading one of her stories. In this third book, we meet outgoing Meg Mills and introvert Todd Davis. “Can two people who are polar opposites help each other and find romance in the process?”

MY REVIEW

In Tune With Romance

In Tune With Romance by Patti Jo Moore

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The amazing characters in this touching story held my heart as they faced their fears!!

Introvert Todd Davis is a music teacher and a piano tuner. He is trying to put his life back together after difficulties in the past and a hurtful divorce. Compassionate Meg Mills is reaching for a different dream after her husband passed away two years ago. To move forward, they both must overcome fears. While they help each other, tension builds between these two opposite personalities (with a shared love of cats!) as they become aware of their mutual attraction.

What a dramatic ending as the hero must face his biggest fear! Then the epilogue is lovely! *sigh*

Author Patti Jo Moore has a special way of making me fall in love with all the folks in this charming beach town of Coastal Breeze, Florida. This book is a stand alone, but revisiting the sweet people from her other books is always fun. Hopefully there will be more trips to this special place! If you like virtual vacations and engaging characters, I highly recommend this inspirational romance of second chances and facing fears.

Favorite quotes:
“Lord, I can’t do this alone. I need Your help.”

“If she was ever going to move forward, she had to take those first steps. And trust.”

Are you blessed by challenges? #TuesdayTea March devotional

Dressed in full armor, ready to accept the challenge.

BIBLE VERSE

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Ephesians 6:11 NIV

Are you facing challenges? Health issues? Work-related stresses? Relationship issues?

When we must work through difficult times, we don’t usually see the reason or meaning for the struggles we endure. After we’ve gone through the fire, we can reflect back on what we’ve gained. Strength. Confidence. Humility. Empathy. Gratefulness.

Bright red cast and crutches

Recently I had complicated foot surgery. If you know me, you know hiking is integral to my well-being….physically, emotionally and spiritually. Four weeks and counting with no weight bearing. Crutches are a pain…literally! Then I’ll face a couple of months with an “orthopedic boot” and then intensive physical therapy. No hiking or neighborhood walks. The hardest challenge is accepting I’m dependent on my husband for many daily tasks. He’s great about helping, but I don’t like limits on my abilities.

Even though this recovery is not the worst health challenge my husband and I have faced, this time of waiting is giving me plenty of opportunity to trust my faith…to stay positive and hopeful about the ultimate outcome. After this, I’ll deeply appreciate being able to walk across a room without the aid (hinderance?) of crutches. I’m clinging to the message in one of the Bible passages I think of when I need strength….fortitude for any and every challenge faced.

BIBLE VERSE

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:13-17

Doesn’t this passage fill you with hope and confidence? No matter the challenge before you, these words give strength to face the difficulty ahead. To pass through the fire….of pain, despair and fear. Our Lord prepares us to do battle with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation and His Word.

Put on the full armor of God. ~Ephesians 6:11 NIV

TRAVEL

We enjoy attending Renaissance festivals, a little taste of the sights and sounds of the past. The jousting knights are the perfect example of putting on armor before the battle. At the Arizona Renaissance Festival near Phoenix, many attendees wear elaborate costumes. Colorful wares are offered in cute shoppes. Tunes from bagpipes and beating drums can be heard. The air has scents of wood fires and roasting turkey legs. There was even a cute tea shop, perfect for my tea-loving self.

Tea shop and apothecary

So today I’m serving Shakespeare’s Romance Tea—white tea, raspberry leaf, hibiscus and peach.

Various jars of teas sold at the Renaissance Faire.

If you’re interested in Renaissance fairs, I recommend the elaborate Arizona Renaissance Festival held on weekends during February and March. For details, visit http://www.arizonarenfestinfo.com.

BOOK NEWS

Some of my author friends have books releasing soon.

LORD OF HER HEART by Sherrinda Ketchersid

Fitting in with the theme of jousting knights, Sherrinda Ketchersid’s debut, Lord of Her Heart, is available May 14, published by Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas. To escape an evil plot, Lady Jocelyn dons a disguise, hoping to find out the truth about her father’s situation. Jousting tournament champion Malcolm, who desires a peaceful life on his own manor, discovers her deception. They must learn to trust each other in this story of romance set in medieval times. Sounds intriguing!

Patti Jo Moore’s third book in her Emerald Coast Romance series, In Tune With Romance, releases later this month with Forget Me Not Romances. We can anticipate another sweet romance as we visit the charming beach town of Coastal Breeze. We’re all ready for some warm breezes, I imagine!

A MOST INCONVENIENT LOVE by Ruth Logan Herne

Currently I’m reading A Most Inconvenient Love, by Ruth Logan Herne. This historical, set on the prairies of South Dakota, is engaging as a school marm and a lumber baron find their way to a happy ever after. I always enjoy this author’s style of sprinkling wisdom among the pages of a great story.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, we thank you for the courage you give us for face the challenges in our lives. Your Word fortifies us with truth, righteousness, faith and salvation. Please be with us as we walk toward the light with joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Are you facing challenges? May we pray for you? Have you walked a challenging path and come through stronger because of your experience? What Scriptures do you treasure when faced with difficulties?

I’ve felt the prayers of those of you praying for my surgery. I’d appreciate continuing prayers for my foot to heal completely so I’ll be out on the mountain trails this summer. Thank you for prayers, sharing and joining me for Tuesday Tea.

With blessings and prayers always,

Sherida
