Ready to leap outside the comfort zone? (Plus end-of-summer book recommendations for #teatime reading.)

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.

My father’s favorite Scripture came to mind as I thought about my upcoming adventures. Romans 8:28 reminds us that our Lord will be with us as we take the next steps into the unknown, if we love and strive to serve Him.

MY REVIEW OF A DARE AND A PRAYER

A thrilling WWII romance! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Author Julie Lessman always brings faith and passion to her novels. Her newest book is no exception. A Dare and a Prayer provides insights into the wartime period….the strength, the bravery and the tragedy.

A Dare and a Prayer continues the fascinating saga of the O’Connor family. Lieutenant Henry Dennehy has a bad-boy reputation. He lives on the wild side as a skilled fighter pilot assigned to night raids over the Pacific. Though he deeply loves his family, he rejects the faith of his heritage. He is attracted to cautious Amy MacArthur, a religious woman serving her country as a lieutenant in the Airforce Nurse Corp stationed in the Pacific Theater. How can these two opposite souls work toward a lasting relationship? Their interesting path to the sweet ending involves a crisis to save three abused orphans, the emotions of the final days of the war, and oceans of forgiveness. A completely engrossing story!

Since I’m an advocate for the protection and development of children, I applaud author Julie Lessman for touching on the tragic subject of child trafficking, an issue explored in the recent movie The Sound of Freedom. With her research into the topic, she writes emotionally about this travesty which did occur during the war.

If you’re interested in World War II history….and romance….I definitely recommend A Dare and a Prayer by Julie Lessman.

Favorite quote: “But when God’s in the middle (of a relationship), embraced equally by two people of faith, He is the Anchor for their souls……holding them secure and able to weather any storm…and all because of their deep faith.”

On a personal note……

Since my parents were a young engaged couple during this time period, I especially enjoyed the details. Though I know many of their stories, this novel brought up more questions I wish I’d asked of my parents about the emotions and reactions they experienced.

My father was a forward observer in the US Army, a Purple Heart recipient and a POW. My mother was his fiancée waiting on the home front, a strong woman and a patriotic supporter of our country. Together they overcame the challenges of my father’s wartime leg amputation and celebrated over sixty years of marriage until my mom lost her battle with leukemia.

I’m grateful for the authors who bring these periods of history to life for their readers so we can remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who lived through those difficult times.

IMPORTANT READER MESSAGE FROM JULIE LESSMAN

I admire author Julie Lessman’s faith-filled, servant’s heart. Read what she writes in her Reader Letter at the end of the book: “As a side note, I named the child-trafficking organization that Amy and Henry plan to volunteer at after an organization that I support myself—Project Eden. Project Eden is a Christian after-care home in the Philippines that provides long-term aftercare for girls aged 5-18 who have been rescued out of trafficking…..Partial proceeds from this book will be donated to Project Eden.”

ABOUT ROMANCE AUTHOR JULIE LESSMAN

TRAVEL AND HIKING ADVENTURES

Stopping to smell the WILDFLOWERS!

My husband and I returned to New Mexico to hike more of the Continental Divide Trail. This time we hiked into the beautiful San Pedro Wilderness area in Santa Fe National Forest.

The trail, the wildflowers and the views were amazing.

We stopped for lunch by San Gregorio Lake. “Be still, and know that I am God.” This Scripture came to my heart as we felt the peace of His glorious creation in this place.

During stressful times, meditating on Philippians 4:8, as this water bottle sticker from https://theadoptshoppe.com reminds us, helps focus on the positive. (I love the shop’s faith-filled stickers!)

On our way home, we stopped for brunch at one of my favorite places…La Posada in Winslow, Arizona, a former Fred Harvey Hotel. The Turquoise Room serves a fabulous Southwest avocado toast topped with pickled red onions and pepitas…a perfect flavor combination. We enjoyed the view of the passing trains on the BNSF mainline from the tableside window.

And doesn’t the Turquoise Room coffee blend go perfectly with my short story? 😉http://www.Amazon.com/dp/B0BYXT5PP3

#TEATIME at Lake Yellowstone Hotel in Yellowstone National Park, plus BOOK recommendations!

Join me for a trip to Yellowstone National Park with hiking and a stay at Lake Yellowstone Hotel….plus inspirational romance book recommendations.

My husband and I enjoy historic hotels and hiking. Recently, we combined these two passions on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. To check off a bucket list item, we stayed at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel. Our visit was perfect.

Lake Yellowstone Hotel

Built in 1889, Lake Yellowstone Hotel is the oldest hotel in Yellowstone and is the longest standing lodging in a national park.

Our room at Lake Yellowstone Hotel

The hotel has been updated many times, from its humble beginnings when guests arrived by stagecoach or steamship, to the majestic renovations completed in 2014.

DINING AND TREATS

We enjoyed dinner and a breakfast buffet in the formal dining room.

Being hikers, we definitely wanted to hit the trails during our visit.

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

Of course for me, vacations always involve reading….even on my tiny iPhone, if necessary. Here are some suggestions:

For romcom readers: Brynn and Sebastian Hate Each Other by Bethany Turner

With characters who won over my heart, this book is a feel-good, laugh-out-loud romcom jewel. The humor, the friendships and the heartwarming conclusion (plus the SCONES) all come together for a perfect story! Check out her website: https://www.seebethanywrite.com

Brynn and Sebastian Hate Each Other by Bethany Turner

For cozy mystery readers: Weeding Out Lies by Jackie Layton

I liked the characters (especially ex-Marine Jake), the warm community of the small Texas town setting and the colorful blossoms mentioned throughout the book. Author Jackie Layton’s mystery stories always include intriguing who-done-it plots to solve. Check out her website: https://www.jackielaytoncozyauthor.com

Weeding Out Lies by Jackie Layton

And for inspirational romance readers: Fair Haven by Laura Conner Kestner

Though I’ve just started this book, I’m already captivated by the characters’ lives, the intrigue and curious as to how everything to work out for them. A hidden identity, life on a ranch and a sweet child all add to the enjoyment. I’ve loved other books by award-winning author Laura Conner Kestner, so I highly recommend this recent release! A #teatime travel adventure to Grand Canyon National Park! A short hike, a historic cabin, glorious views and an amazing dessert…plus I have book recommendations!

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

Isaiah 6:3 (KJV)

Grand Canyon National Park is definitely a must-see wonder filled with glorious scenes. We’ve hiked there a few times, even doing a small section of the famous Bright Angel Trail which goes from the south rim to the river at the bottom of the canyon and then back up to the northern rim.

Since the temperatures were quite high this visit, we opted for the Hermit’s Rest bus tour one evening and an early morning hike along the Rim Trail to enjoy the awe-inspiring views of the canyon.

We were fortunate to stay in a historic cabin at Bright Angel Lodge which was only a few steps from the canyon.

Bright Angel Lodge was designed by famous Southwest architect, Mary Elizabeth Jane Coulter, in 1935 to resemble a pioneer village.

She also designed this fireplace in the main lodge building to represent the various rock layers of the Grand Canyon.

Nearby, the famous El Tovar Hotel also sits on the canyon rim.

We had dinner in the El Tovar dining room, sitting by a window overlooking the canyon at sunset.

SUMMERTIME TREAT-I wish I could share this dessert with you…. blackberry jalapeño crème brûlée! Cool, creamy fruit-flavored custard with a sweet crunchy topping and just a hint of hot spice. This would make a delicious #teatime treat sometime this during this hot season!

NOW FOR A FEW SUMMER BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS!

(While reading this summer, I’m snacking on cherry/chocolate/pecan cookies and have my water bottle nearby.)

COZY MYSTERY READERS-A Killer Unleashed by Jackie Layton

With a return visit to the low country of Heyward Beach, South Carolina, we find dog walker Andi Grace reluctantly involved with solving another murder….and while planning her upcoming wedding to Marc. A local attorney is found strangled with a pink dog leash. Since he was a disreputable person, there are a number of suspects with motives to get rid of him.

I enjoyed sifting through clues and studying the possible motives along with Andi Grace. Since this is a dog walker series, there are sweet doggy moments throughout. As a landlocked reader, I was interested in the hurricane preparations. Plus it was fun to stop in again at the Daily Java coffee shop to virtually savor the baked treats. Pecan-peach biscotti or blueberry/cherry scones? Yes, please!

If you enjoy fun cozy mysteries, you will be captivated by author Jackie Layton’s A Killer Unleashed and all the books in her Low Country Dog Walker series. WEBSITE-JACKIE LAYTON

INSPIRATIONAL ROMANTIC SUSPENSE READERSTracking the Tiny Target by Connie Queen

If you like romantic suspense which takes your breath away, Tracking the Tiny Target is the book for you! Author Connie Queen has written an exciting book which starts with the kidnapping of little boy. His mother, Bristol Delaney, did everything she could get away from her ex-husband and protect her son. However, the child has been snatched from his daycare bus. Deputy sheriff Chandler Murphy and his K-9 Tucker are working to find the abductor. However, Bristol can’t wait for the authorities and goes forward searching for her child on her own, definitely causing tension with the handsome law officer who needs to protect her and solve the crime.

The suspense escalates on each page with dangerous car chases and bullets flying. It’s hard to figure out who the bad guys are and what the motive is for taking little Spencer. Even though the story takes place over only two days, the building of the couple’s romantic relationship is believable. The epilogue provides a perfect ending!

If you enjoy thrilling inspirational suspense, I highly recommend Tracking the Tiny Target by author Connie Queen. WEBSITE-CONNIE QUEEN

Come along on a #teatime exploration of a historic train and a hotel for summer vacation travel…plus book recommendations.

Riding the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

For a combined anniversary/birthday/Father’s Day adventure, we headed to Durango, Colorado to ride the historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a National Historic Landmark. Completed in 1882, this route, through rugged mountains along the Animas River, is spectacular.

But first the food! After boarding, we were given a souvenir mug and served breakfast muffins, coffee, tea and mimosas.

The Highline section of the track clings to the rock cliff above the gorge below.

The view from the rear platform shows the narrow path the tracks follow.

Nearing the old mining town of Silverton, the rails follow the rushing Animas River, surrounded by the gorgeous San Juan Mountains. This day trip is an amazing experience!

The historic Bross Hotel in Paonia, Colorado

We then drove to Paonia, Colorado for a stay at this charming bed and breakfast which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Opening for business in 1906, the hotel flourished as a lodging place and fine restaurant run by Mrs. Laura Bross. The Paonia community was a busy fruit growing and mining center for many years. Later the building became a boarding house and fell into disrepair. In the mid-1990’s, the building was remodeled to reflect its grand past. Now offering ten rooms with a delicious three course breakfast, travelers can enjoy a step back in time.

Quiet lobby with a view of the staircase
Pastry and coffee
Refreshing fruit medley
Eggs and potatoes

Books to consider for summer reading.

For romantic suspense readers, I suggest Tracking the Tiny Target, by Connie Queen. I’ve just started this book. The opening is fast-paced and the characters engaging. Check out: http://www.conniequeenauthor.com

For romantic comedy readers, I enjoyed Dear Henry, Love Edith, author Becca Kinzer’s debut novel. http://www.beccakinzer.com My review:

A fun, romantic story!

With her debut novel Dear Henry, Love Edith, author Becca Kinzer gives readers an enchanting book with great rom-com style similar to Bethany Turner’s romantic romps. I loved the tangle of identities and how the confusion worked out. The friendships and gentle offers of faith-filled advice added to this very satisfying love story.

For Regency romance readers, try author Hannah Linder’s Beneath His Silence. http://www.hannahlinderbooks.com. My review:

An engaging Regency romantic tale!

Beneath His Silence, by author Hannah Linder, takes the reader back in time to the seaside cliffs of England with a story reminiscent of gothic-style romances I’ve read. With a moody, perhaps misunderstood hero, a dark mansion hiding secrets and a brave woman who searches for the truth, this tale involves a complex mystery and a precious child caught in the midst of a tragedy. The author brings the characters and setting to life in her debut novel as the intrigue intensifies. I enjoyed the developing sweet attraction between Ella Pemberton and Henry Sedgwick. The touches of faith and messages of forgiveness were meaningful, as well as the satisfying ending of the book.

And my short story: Turquoise Remembrance

If you enjoy historical trains and hotels, you may be interested in my award-winning short story, Turquoise Remembrance, a romantic mystery set in New Mexico. http://Amazon.com/dp/B0BYXT5PP3

Thank you for joining me on my traveling adventures!

A #teatime celebration of TWO “Do not be anxious” adventures!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

BACKPACKING ADVENTURE
For the last few years, my husband has been backpacking/hiking sections of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail in New Mexico. I’ve been his “trail angel” dropping him off and picking him up at trailheads. Recently, we decided to do a 37-mile stretch together across some dry desert areas. Since I hadn’t backpacked this distance in over 25 years, I was a bit anxious!

THE CHALLENGES:

We needed to carry everything we needed for four days…food, clothing, sleeping gear. And with only one water source at the halfway point, we had to carry all the water we required for two days….and water is heavy! My pack weighed about 20 pounds. There is no cell service and no convenience stores along the way. So I was a bit concerned. What if I guzzled all the water the first day? What if I didn’t bring enough food? What if the weather turned cold? What if we got injured? So many “what ifs” came to mind. (As a writer, I think of “what ifs” all the time for my stories, but real life “what ifs” are a different matter.)

Fortunately my husband (the engineer) has experienced many trails and researches the best methods for backpacking. We have lightweight gear and bring a Garmin GPS device in case of emergencies.

ON TO THE EXPERIENCE!

The high desert of New Mexico is a different type of beautiful. We walked among grasslands, wild flowers and piñon/ponderosa forests, sometimes during rain showers. A rainbow was a special sight, as was an elk running ahead of us. Mountains and mesas were always on the horizon and bird songs filled the air.

CAMPING ALONG THE TRAIL

Nights were quiet, except for the occasional jet to remind us civilization was still out there. Along the trail, we met about thirty “through hikers” ….those planning to do the complete Continental Divide Trail…..all 3,100 miles….from Mexico to Canada, this season. The camaraderie with the fellow hikers was fun, everyone checking on the welfare of each other and sharing trail information…..like how far away was the spring, the only reliable water source for a couple of days.

WATER!

And after miles…and miles….of dry desert, finally seeing the sign for Los Indios Spring was a relief! When we arrived at the rim of the deep canyon, others suggested leaving our packs at the top, only taking our water bottles down the rigorous trail to the spring. Descending into the canyon, the environment changed to greener plants and more shade.

DESCENT TO THE SPRING!

Arriving at the long awaited spring, the sound of water flowing from a pipe into the concrete tank was so peaceful. My husband filtered the clear, cold water to fill all our bottles.

THANKFUL FOR CLEAR, COOL WATER!

Then we headed back up the steep trail, refreshed….and relieved…..to have water again for the rest of our trip. So after being anxious about what the experience would hold, we ended our adventure successfully….hiking 37 miles in only three days while being immersed in God’s amazing creation.

ANNOUNCING ANOTHER REASON TO CELEBRATE!

EL RANCHO HOTEL LOBBY

On our way to our backpacking trailhead, we stopped for dinner at El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico. This is one of the hotels featured in my short story, Turquoise Remembrance, which won the Tony Hillerman Mystery Short Story Contest many years ago. When I decided to self-publish this story, there was some anxiety. Could I figure out the program to upload an ebook? Could I design an acceptable cover? How many errors would I miss? (One, so far.)

With appreciation to many people who encouraged me along the way, I am now an Amazon self-published author with my tiny book. Another “do not be anxious” adventure completed…..with hopefully more books in my future as I trust in Him to guide my writing journey.

MY LITTLE BOOK: TURQUOISE REMEMBRANCE

TEATIME TREATS ON THE TRAIL

A Gift Like No Other (An O'Connor Christmas)

A Gift Like No Other by Julie Lessman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved it! Snuggle up with a cup of orange-cinnamon tea and a sugary snickerdoodle, ready to be blessed by this sweet, spicy story!

Devoted fans of Julie Lessman’s writing know her books are filled with passionate emotions. Her well-developed characters settle into a special place in the reader’s heart. This is so true with this story as Collin and Faith’s seventeen-year marriage faces a few challenges, which all marriages do over time. I loved the way this husband and wife confronted their problems with advice from their family and with the realization of God’s gifts. Very touching and very real. The heartfelt emotions of the Christmas Eve epilogue provide the perfect ending for this story…like a present for the reader, wrapped in festive paper and topped with a sparkly bow….the blessings of a gift like no other.

Favorite quote: “Guilt is like a cancer that eats away at our soul, robbing us of joy, hope, and all too often, the very forgiveness that will set us free.”

Have you visited any Texas historical places? #TuesdayTea Review of REMEMBER TEXAS by Laura Conner Kestner

Welcome to my #TuesdayTea review of an intriguing debut novel by Laura Conner Kestner. Isn’t the cover stunning? I completely enjoyed this visit to Moccasin Rock, Texas. The assorted characters are all so captivating. And following the journey of Caleb and Abby as they fall in love is fun and unpredictable.

REMEMBER TEXAS by Laura Conner Kestner

I’m serving POTATO Chip Cookies with warm spiced apple cider today….the cider because it’s autumn and you’ll find out why I’m offering POTATO chip cookies as you read Remember Texas. I’ll include my mother’s recipe for the cookies.

ABOUT REMEMBER TEXAS

Award-winning fiction. Abigail Horton’s life is turned upside down during the last night of a week-long revival when her father—believed dead—shows up in the custody of a Texas Ranger. Abby is thrilled to see him, and equally devastated to learn he’s been living the life of an outlaw. Texas Ranger Caleb Calhoun stops in Moccasin Rock to let his prisoner, Bob Horton, visit briefly with family before transporting him to Austin for trial. Caleb takes a room at the family’s boarding house, planning to be in and out of the small town by morning. But within hours he’s kissed Abby Horton, made an enemy of her naïve suitor, and let his prisoner escape. As Caleb searches for the missing outlaw, and Abby struggles to keep the man’s whereabouts a secret, they also battle a growing attraction to each other. Throw in a Calhoun family mystery, an elderly preacher on a mission, an old flame of Caleb’s, a secretive spinster, a team of surveyors, and Abby’s mother and brother—and you have a compelling story of faith, family and forgiveness.

MY REVIEW ON GOODREADS

Remember TexasRemember Texas by Laura Conner Kestner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Remember Texas is such an engaging story! I loved it!

Romance and intrigue fill the pages of a fast-paced historical book set in early Texas. This book is an award winner, and I certainly understand why!

Caleb Calhoun is a Texas Ranger on a mission to bring an outlaw to justice when he meets Abigail Horton in tiny Moccasin Rock, Texas. The town setting, with its interesting assortment of townsfolk, invites you into a place of warm relationships, intricate family bonds and some dangerous elements. The tangles of the situations the various characters find themselves in are all so believable. The story moves along quickly with plenty of action and lots of questions about unusual events surrounding the area and its residents.

The hero’s actions caused my heart to warm as he falls for the reluctant heroine during some lovely romantic moments. I really enjoyed all the fascinating characters as they transformed during the course of the story, some from quite unlikeable individuals turning into delightful additions to the group.

I especially like the way the author brings all the intriguing details together by the end for a very satisfying conclusion, including a lovely proposal and beautiful epilogue. More stories by author Laura Conner Kestner are much anticipated! If you enjoy faith-filled historical romance, I believe you will be truly engaged with Remember Texas, a fun book to read!

Favorite quotes:

#TuesdayTea with A ROSE SO FAIR by Myra Johnson

Welcome to Tuesday Tea and our chat with author Myra Johnson about her newest release, A Rose So Fair. This third book in the Flowers of Eden series by Myra Johnson is an inspirational romance set during the Great Depression. The reader experiences the difficulties encountered as people struggled with economic challenges. If you’d like to enter the giveaway for a Kindle ebook, please make a comment and complete the Rafflecopter entry form at the end of this post.

For me, the story recalled my grandmother’s snippets of her life during that time….the failing of my grandparents’ hardware store, food given to hobos passing by, my grandfather scrambling for odd jobs, and the “making do” with simple things as was necessary. I admired Rose Linwood, a heroine so typical of the strong women who carried on during those trying situations. Caleb Wieland is a great hero, persistent and loving. The story is filled with strong faith and courageous characters…as was required for life during that period of history.

Chatting with author Myra Johnson:

Myra kindly answered my questions about the inspiration for her book, her writing experiences, and one of the ways God has touched her life. Thank you so much, Myra, for joining us to talk about your newest inspiration romance novel!

SHERIDA: How did you get the glimmer of the idea for A Rose So Fair?

MYRA: The idea first began to form a few years ago as I was finishing up my Till We Meet Again series. The editor I had been working with expressed interest in a Depression-era series, so I started brainstorming. Already familiar with the Arkansas setting, I began there. While perusing research materials, I soon found myself homing in on the hardships farmers endured during the Depression. I began imagining three sisters and what their individual personalities would be, and so the Linwood sisters, the “Flowers of Eden,” began to take shape in my mind. Rose, the youngest, developed her own kind of spunk and determination, and she was certainly both challenging and enjoyable to write about.

SHERIDA: What do you do to keep the sparkle while you are writing?

MYRA: I’ve developed a fairly consistent writing routine. Weekday mornings are set aside for the “busy work” of writing—social media, marketing, recordkeeping, blogging, etc. So after lunch, my mind is freed from obsessing over those kinds of tasks, and I can concentrate on the book. I’ll usually reread the last scene or two from the previous writing session and do minor editing. This gets me back into the flow of the story and helps to sparks ideas for what will happen next. I work in Scrivener, which allows me to pin character photos to a sidebar, and glancing at the images from time to time helps me stay grounded in the characters’ mind and voice.

SHERIDA: Beyond family, friends and your writing career, what jewel of a moment has God placed in your path during your life’s journey that you would share with us?

MYRA: When I think about “jewel” moments, it’s hard to come up with just one, and most of them would include animals and nature. I remember one in particular when my husband and I were enjoying lunch and quiet conversation in our screen porch a few summers ago. Our home is surrounded by trees, and suddenly a barred owl flew in and landed on a branch right outside the porch, not even ten feet away. He sat there staring at us and our two dogs for a long time, almost as if he were trying to decide if Gracie, our 90-pound Lab mix, would be too big to carry off as “lunch.” Since then, we’ve heard many owls hooting in the distance but have never enjoyed another up-close-and-personal encounter like that one. It was very special.

A ROSE SO FAIR by Myra Johnson

ABOUT A ROSE SO FAIR

Plucky Rose Linwood grew up on her grandfather’s Arkansas tenant farm, a life her two older sisters never cared much for. Working alongside her grandpa, though, Rose learned to love the land as much as he did. Now her sisters have married and moved on, Grandpa has gone to his eternal reward, and Rose is determined to make a go of the farm on her own. But crops have been slow to recover since the drought of 1930-31, and the whole country struggles in the grip of the Great Depression. Drifters looking for work or handouts roam the countryside, some of them up to no good, so Rose keeps her trusty Winchester rifle at the ready. Caleb Wieland, Rose’s best friend, isn’t the farmer his late father was, and he’s about to lose his cotton crop to boll weevils. He’d let the farm go and search for work he’s more suited to, except he can’t desert his widowed mother. Besides, he’s been quietly falling in love with Rose since they were in grammar school, and the thought of leaving her behind is too much to bear. He’d give anything to win her heart, but Rose’s stubborn independence is proving as thorny as the flower for which she’s named.

MY REVIEW

A Rose So FairA Rose So Fair by Myra Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Rose So Fair is a gripping and heart-touching story!

This book truly brings to life the difficult days of the Great Depression, where daunting problems arose to test people’s fortitude, but also helped reveal the strength of faith and the ability to overcome trials with the help of others.

I admired Rose Linwood with her fierce loyalty to her grandfather’s farm and the dream she shared with him. She singlehandedly struggles to raise a cotton crop in order to satisfy the requirements of the leased property. Caleb Weiland is a great protective and persistent hero. He is torn between his financial responsibilities and his desire to have his love accepted by Rose. Both of them go through extremely difficult situations. I wasn’t sure how their differences and problems could be resolved since they were both such strong people, but after many emotional hills and valleys, the end is beautiful…sweet and satisfying.

I also enjoyed the other members of the family, including the two older sisters whose earlier stories evolve in this third book. Both drifter Quimby and the stray dog, Delano, add to the impact of the book. All the folks of Eden, Arkansas, felt so real.

The romantic tension is sweet, the thread of faith is comforting, and the message is thoughtful. With friends and family, along with trust in God, we are stronger together. I deeply enjoyed this book with its portrayal of life in the 1930’s with love, faith, and strength overcoming difficulties. I highly recommend A Rose So Fair.

Favorite quotes:
“No matter how far away they send me, you’ll always have my heart.”
“God doesn’t want or expect us to carry our burdens alone.”
She said it reminded her nobody’s perfect, and that loving someone takes a whole heap of forgiveness.

TEA TREAT

Grandmother’s Sour Cream Pound Cake

In the story, Rose has tea and pound cake served by Mrs.O’Neill. As I mentioned earlier, I heard about the Depression from my grandmother who had a recipe for a sour cream version of pound cake. I’m sharing this with you today. Please help yourself to a couple of slices while I pour you a cup of tea.

Sour Cream Pound Cake

1 cup sugar

1 cup sour cream

1 egg

1 1/4 cups flour

1 tsp. baking soda

Blend sugar, sour cream, and eggs together. Add flour and baking soda and mix. Divide batter into two greased mini-loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

#TuesdayTea Review of Her Motherhood Wish by @KeliGwyn

I’m delighted you are joining me to chat about Keli Gwyn’s newest Love Inspired Historical, Her Motherhood Wish, with a heroine dear to my heart. This book releases today!

HER MOTHERHOOD WISH by Keli Gwyn

ABOUT HER MOTHERHOOD WISH

BUILDING A FAMILY

En route to the Double T Orphanage to work on its expansion, carpenter Chip Evans and Caroline Hunt discover two orphaned children—and become their caregivers. But Chip’s determined not to let himself get too attached to the children who just lost their widowed father…or to the lovely woman helping him care for them. Especially since Callie and the little ones just don’t fit into his detailed plans for the future.

Callie can’t help but fall in love with the orphans, and despite her better judgment, she’s falling for Chip, too. Her dreams of being a wife and mother were not quite like this. But Callie believes a plan bigger than Chip’s brought them all together…and now she just has to help him see it, too.

MY STORY

Many years ago, the love of my heart expressed his devotion to me and said, “I want you to be the mother of my children.” I burst into tears! I confessed to him that a doctor told me I might never be able to have children. He comforted me and said we could adopt children, and those kids would be his own. I did marry this good man whose compassion reassured me that day. We’ll celebrate 46 years of marriage this summer.

In our case, God’s plan for us provided miracles…eventually we did become pregnant. We now have two grown sons, faithful men like their father, and definitely our miracles and treasured blessings.

So…….heroine Callie’s situation in Her Motherhood Wish touches my heart. I relate to her disappointment, hope, and attempts to trust God’s plan for her life. Keli Gwyn writes a wonderful story full of God’s treasured blessing of love.

MY REVIEW
Her Motherhood WishHer Motherhood Wish by Keli Gwyn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Such a lovely cover…and the story inside is just as beautiful!

Her Motherhood Wish is filled with sweet moments as carpenter Chip Evans and loving Callie Hunt discover their happily-ever-after as they work at the Double T Orphanage. Callie’s dearest dream is to be a mother, but she faces some problems. I sympathized with her as she confronted the reality and disappointment of her situation. She is strong and accepting of her fate. As for Chip, many times I was quite displeased with him. He is protective and hardworking, but blindly adheres to the rigid plan he detailed for his future. However…. he completely redeemed himself in my eyes with the execution of his beautiful plan at the conclusion of the story. A precious ending!

I adored the two orphans, Jasper and Ruby, who warmed my heart with their needs and vulnerability. The occasional appearances of other characters from earlier books were a delight, but this book can definitely be read as a stand-alone. The suspense element in this story is an intriguing bonus.

Author Keli Gwyn always includes interesting historical detail in her stories, such as the art of cabinetry in this book. Her books touch my heart with their gentle message of faith and leave me with a happy sigh at the end. Great storytelling! I hope you enjoy Her Motherhood Wish, with its beautiful conclusion, as much as I did.

Favorite quotes:
“The best we can do is love, support and encourage them, all the while praying that the Lord will work His healing.”
“…the Lord has a way of bringing joy from heartache.”
“You’re a beloved child of God, and He has plans for you.”

TREAT FOR TEA TIME

With the beautiful, glowing cover art adorning Her Motherhood Wish, I though Lemon Scones would be a bright and appropriate treat to celebrate this sparkling new release. (Yes, isn’t that cover gorgeous?!?!) In the acknowledgements of her book, Keli mentions her husband bakes homemade scones while she works on writing projects. What a great idea! 🙂 So please help yourself to a lemon scone and a warm cup of tea as we celebrate the release of Her Motherhood Wish!
