A #TEATIME review of THE COWBOY’S SECRET PAST by Tina Radcliffe…plus Double Chocolate White Chip Cookies and recent views from the trail!

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:12

Welcome to teatime and my review of The Cowboy’s Secret Past written by Tina Radcliffe, one of my favorite authors! I’m delighted to introduce you to the third Lazy M Ranch book. I’m serving yummy chocolate cookies with your choice of beverage. Please enjoy!

ABOUT THE BOOK

He’s not the same man he was—

But maybe now he’s ready to be a father.

Since leaving his wild rodeo days behind, rancher Trevor Morgan has sobered up and built a faith-filled life. So he’s shocked when the woman caring for his grandfather intrudes on that solitude. Nurse Hope Burke has hidden motives for coming to the Lazy M Ranch—she believes Trevor is the father of her orphaned nephew. Can a loving aunt and a wary cowboy change a little boy’s life forever?

MY REVIEW

An endearing and entertaining story of grace! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love a book which shows an example of God’s unwavering grace….and this is such a book!  The Cowboy’s Secret Past is an enjoyable (LOL at times) story. Author Tina Radcliffe’s writing always touches my heart with a challenging dilemma, then comforting hope as the situation resolves through faith and forgiveness. Her trademark humor and endearing characters give me smiles throughout the pages.

The Morgan brothers of the Lazy M Ranch have enchanted my heart with their compassionate and selfless personalities. Trevor, the cowboy in this third book, has made some mistakes. Reformed and faithful, he now must face past issues. And Hope Burke, his grandfather’s new no-nonsense nurse, is the woman who comes along to make him confront his errors….including recognizing the need to be vulnerable and to be open to love again. And can Trevor convince Hope she and her young nephew belong in Homestead Pass, Oklahoma?

Along with this memorable story, I especially liked the additional characters. Bess Lowder, ranch housekeeper and cook extraordinaire (cinnamon rolls, anyone?) adds charm and humor to the story. Gramps, the Morgan patriarch Gus, is grumpy, but in a funny way, and lovingly offers wisdom to his family. Patch, the puppy, is adorable. And young Cole touches our emotions as he deals with his losses and enthusiastically embraces hard work on the ranch. Cameo appearances by the other Morgan brothers adds to the warmth of real life family ties.

If you like meaningful stories of strong family bonds with engaging characters living their faith every day plus tender happily-ever-after endings, this is the book for you. I highly recommend The Cowboy’s Secret Past …or all the books….by author Tina Radcliffe.

Favorite quotes:

“We’ve all got history.” Hope shrugged. “It’s about how that history makes us or breaks us and dictates our tomorrows.”

“The most important thing is that I’m doing what the Lord put in my heart….. All you have to do is trust that He will equip you for the job He called you to do.”

VIEWS FROM THE TRAIL

As many of my readers know, my husband and I are hikers. We just completed a 100-mile trail challenge ending in February. While on our Arizona treks, we saw many of God’s amazing desert creations and enjoyed the stunning landscapes of our region. Below are some of my photos from our recent hikes. I’m sure you can guess why the last one is my favorite!

What makes your heart grateful during this season of thanksgiving? (Plus story recommendations you may enjoy.)

Moose! I’m grateful for God’s glorious creation and the ability to visit special places!

O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

1 Chronicles 16:34 (KJV)

I have so many thoughts of gratefulness right now. Some are tiny whispers of peace, and some are so enormous that my heart is overflowing with joy. During November and looking forward to the celebration of our Savior’s birth, I tend to reflect on the past year, and fortunately, I feel completely blessed. Family, friends, fellowship….all close to my heart.

One adventure I’m grateful to have experienced during this past year is a backpacking trip with my husband to Lake Hessie in the High Unitas Wilderness of Utah. Over 50 years ago, this location was one of my first backpacking experiences. While we lived in Wyoming many years ago, we hiked back to the lake a few times.

But our recent August return was after an absence of nearly twenty-five years. We noted a few changes. Much larger trailhead parking lot. Many more hikers on the trail. And other groups were camping at the quiet lake. We did remembered the trail fairly well as it followed a rushing river, then climbed a long uphill section before arriving at our camping spot. The lake is still beautiful. And we saw moose….as we always do at this memorable place.

I hope these few photos of our adventure give you a moment of peaceful enjoyment viewing His majesty.

After a storm came through right after arriving at our campsite, it was lovely to see beautiful Lake Hessie sparkling in the sun.
Our back country campsite.
We made it! Lake Hessie, High Unitas Wilderness, Utah
Thankful to see the blue sky after a storm of rain and sleet on our hike back to the trailhead.

If worries overcome us, how do we find peace? #Teatime reflections to calm our hearts.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Philippians 4:7-9 (KJV)

When we’re faced with difficulties and stressful circumstances, it is good to remember our Lord is with us. We find comfort and peace by reading His word. In Philippians, Paul reminds us to think about positive things, then our hearts and minds will be calmed.

My husband and I hike to enjoy God’s creation. We feel His peace when we are outside, surrounded by nature. We recently did a short one-night backpacking trip in Arizona where we felt the calming presence of our Lord.

Seeing the flowers and critters always brings me joy.

Awesome sunrises and sunsets begin and end our outdoor camping days, reminding us of His glorious creation plan.

OCTOBER BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

Reading inspirational books helps encourage our walk. When we read stories about perseverance, forgiveness, trust and hope, we understand our challenges and can empathize with others. This month I have some romantic suspense suggestions.

FAIR HAVEN by Laura Conner Kestner

The characters in this contemporary romance captured my heart. Right from the beginning, I was drawn into the action-packed suspense. Author Laura Conner Kestner skillfully hints at the circumstances surrounding famous musical performer Leah Dean and lawman/rancher Joshua Calhoun. My favorite quote: “I understand that God doesn’t promise we won’t have trouble in life. He does promise He’ll be with us as we face those troubles.”

A #teatime travel adventure to Grand Canyon National Park! A short hike, a historic cabin, glorious views and an amazing dessert…plus I have book recommendations!

And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

Isaiah 6:3 (KJV)

Grand Canyon National Park is definitely a must-see wonder filled with glorious scenes. We’ve hiked there a few times, even doing a small section of the famous Bright Angel Trail which goes from the south rim to the river at the bottom of the canyon and then back up to the northern rim.

Since the temperatures were quite high this visit, we opted for the Hermit’s Rest bus tour one evening and an early morning hike along the Rim Trail to enjoy the awe-inspiring views of the canyon.

We were fortunate to stay in a historic cabin at Bright Angel Lodge which was only a few steps from the canyon.

Bright Angel Lodge was designed by famous Southwest architect, Mary Elizabeth Jane Coulter, in 1935 to resemble a pioneer village.

She also designed this fireplace in the main lodge building to represent the various rock layers of the Grand Canyon.

Nearby, the famous El Tovar Hotel also sits on the canyon rim.

We had dinner in the El Tovar dining room, sitting by a window overlooking the canyon at sunset.

SUMMERTIME TREAT-I wish I could share this dessert with you…. blackberry jalapeño crème brûlée! Cool, creamy fruit-flavored custard with a sweet crunchy topping and just a hint of hot spice. This would make a delicious #teatime treat sometime this during this hot season!

NOW FOR A FEW SUMMER BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS!

(While reading this summer, I’m snacking on cherry/chocolate/pecan cookies and have my water bottle nearby.)

COZY MYSTERY READERS-A Killer Unleashed by Jackie Layton

With a return visit to the low country of Heyward Beach, South Carolina, we find dog walker Andi Grace reluctantly involved with solving another murder….and while planning her upcoming wedding to Marc. A local attorney is found strangled with a pink dog leash. Since he was a disreputable person, there are a number of suspects with motives to get rid of him.

I enjoyed sifting through clues and studying the possible motives along with Andi Grace. Since this is a dog walker series, there are sweet doggy moments throughout. As a landlocked reader, I was interested in the hurricane preparations. Plus it was fun to stop in again at the Daily Java coffee shop to virtually savor the baked treats. Pecan-peach biscotti or blueberry/cherry scones? Yes, please!

If you enjoy fun cozy mysteries, you will be captivated by author Jackie Layton’s A Killer Unleashed and all the books in her Low Country Dog Walker series. WEBSITE-JACKIE LAYTON

INSPIRATIONAL ROMANTIC SUSPENSE READERSTracking the Tiny Target by Connie Queen

If you like romantic suspense which takes your breath away, Tracking the Tiny Target is the book for you! Author Connie Queen has written an exciting book which starts with the kidnapping of little boy. His mother, Bristol Delaney, did everything she could get away from her ex-husband and protect her son. However, the child has been snatched from his daycare bus. Deputy sheriff Chandler Murphy and his K-9 Tucker are working to find the abductor. However, Bristol can’t wait for the authorities and goes forward searching for her child on her own, definitely causing tension with the handsome law officer who needs to protect her and solve the crime.

The suspense escalates on each page with dangerous car chases and bullets flying. It’s hard to figure out who the bad guys are and what the motive is for taking little Spencer. Even though the story takes place over only two days, the building of the couple’s romantic relationship is believable. The epilogue provides a perfect ending!

If you enjoy thrilling inspirational suspense, I highly recommend Tracking the Tiny Target by author Connie Queen. WEBSITE-CONNIE QUEEN

INSPIRATIONAL ROMANCE READERSPreorder The Cowboy Bargain by Tina Radcliffe-available August 22, 2023!

Sam Morgan never thought he’d see his ex-fiancée again after she skipped town days before their wedding. He certainly didn’t expect to find her opening a restaurant on his property-in the building he’d intended to sell his crafts from. This time Olivia’s sticking around, forcing Sam to strike a deal: work together and see whose products sell best. Could their business venture lead to a surprising reunion?

Thank you for joining along on the trip to Grand Canyon National Park. What glorious places have you visited recently to view God’s majesty? I pray you are having a restorative summer with cooling temperatures arriving soon. Please consider subscribing to my blog posts. Thank you!

#TEATIME INTERVIEW WITH CARRIE SCHMIDT @meezcarrie

I first ”met” Carrie Schmidt in Seekerville and as an organizer of the Christian Fiction Readers’ Retreat. She is the owner of the popular Reading is My SuperPower blog and co-owner and founder of JustRead Publicity Tours. Now she’s entered the author realm as the one of the authors of a writers’ toolbox book…. Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers…. to help aspiring authors break into the world of publishing while also sharing valuable insights for published writers. Her section describes how to reach readers….a perfect area for her to point writers toward the keys of successfully opening the doors of readers’ hearts.

GETTING PAST THE PUBLISHING GATEKEEPERS

A QUICK INTERVIEW WITH CARRIE

Carrie graciously answered a few questions about her new writing and publishing experience.

SHERIDA: Since my blog features teatime, do you prefer coffee, tea or something else? What do you like as a treat with your beverage of choice?

CARRIE: Ooooo…. do I have to give up my author card if I don’t like either coffee or tea? I’m really more of a diet Coke kinda gal with an occasional Snapple Apple drink or hot chocolate, depending on the temps outside. And as for a treat, I’m a fan of baked goods in just about any form – scones, muffins, cake, brownies… with my diet Coke of course to cancel out the calories. Hahaha!

SHERIDA: With all you are involved in, your life is already quite busy. I know you were reluctant to take on the task of writing a section of this book. What nudged you to accept the challenge?

CARRIE: A couple of things… First – and most importantly – I just felt God’s touch on my heart to do it. It’s not anything I can put into words other than just a peace-filled assurance that I was moving in the right direction. Secondly, we lost my beloved Dad to a blood cancer called multiple myeloma in December of last year. He, along with my mom, has been my biggest cheerleader when it comes to my blog and all the opportunities that have come from that in the last seven years. He always said he knew I’d write a book one day, and this seemed like a great chance to honor him and help authors at the same time ❤

SHERIDA: Now as you reflect back on the process of writing and publishing Gatekeepers, what surprised you during the experience?

CARRIE: How HARD it is! Haha! I have a new respect for authors and the labor of love it is to put words on a page and then get those words from rough draft to published page. Along with all the ‘extras’ that need to be done to launch a book baby out into the world. The work does not stop when you’ve finished writing the book, and while I knew that on one level now I definitely know it from experience!

SHERIDA: Congratulations of the release of your book, Carrie! Thank you for kindly answering my questions. Those times when God directs our paths are treasured moments. You made the right decision to go forward with writing your book. Your Dad is smiling…..as is Bonnie. Hugs!

TEATIME TREATS

KRINGLE

Before you read about Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers, grab a special almond Kringle, which I picked up on a recent trip to Seattle…..and of course a Diet Coke (or two) to cancel out those calories. *wink, wink*

ABOUT GETTING PAST THE PUBLISHING GATEKEEPERS

Remember when Dorothy finally reached the Emerald City only to be halted by the Gatekeeper, blocking her hopes of seeing the Great and Powerful Wizard?

The path to publication is like that. Agents, and Editors, and Publishers, oh, my! Each one is a barrier between you and a publishing contract.

But what if you understood what agents, editors, publishers, and readers really want?

If you’re struggling to get past the publishing gatekeepers, this book will give you a behind-the-scenes peek at how to win the heart of each type of publishing professional. In fact, Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers won’t just give you a peek—it will give you a guided tour. In this book, four publishing professionals—an agent, a publisher, an editor, and an influencer—share what it takes to unlock each “gate” within the publishing industry.

Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers is a must-have resource for all aspiring authors, and it offers insights to help multi-published authors as well.

What can you find specifically in Carrie’s section WINNING THE HEARTS OF READERS?

From Carrie: “I love that Getting Past the Publishing Gatekeepers doesn’t only address issues and questions that aspiring authors might have – I get to continue the conversation for published authors with topics such as:

  • where to find readers of your type of book
  • prioritizing your focus instead of trying to promote in all the places
  • how to determine which influencers truly want to help & which influencers are only in it for the free books
  • how (and how not) to approach influencers
  • what makes readers try a new-to-them author
  • the importance of cover, blurb, and author website must-haves in making a good first impression on readers
  • how to make word-of-mouth work for you
  • the importance of community in reader engagement
  • why your story matters”

Do you LOVE Christmas? Get ready for a ranch-style holiday with CHRISTMAS WITH THE COWBOY!

Welcome to #TuesdayTea as we celebrate Christmas at Big Heart Ranch with the release of Christmas with the Cowboy by Tina Radcliffe!🎄 (Mass market available September 18 and Kindle available October 1.)

In honor of the newest Big Heart Ranch story, I’m serving Emma Maxwell Norman’s Chocolate Muffins with strong Arbuckle’s Ariosa cowboy coffee or a light peppermint tea. Please help yourself, as there’s plenty to go around.

Christmas with the Cowboy-Big Heart Ranch

From my earlier reviews of Tina Radcliffe’s Big Heart Ranch series, you know I love the children’s home setting for these books. And now with her newest release, Christmas with the Cowboy, I’m singing carols and baking goodies, all in preparation for our special holiday. In this treasured story, we’re celebrating a ranch-style Christmas at the Holiday Roundup!

ABOUT CHRISTMAS WITH THE COWBOY

Former navy SEAL Zach Norman has been avoiding his ranching roots—and the woman he couldn’t have. Back to visit his brother’s widow, Emma Maxwell Norman, and her adorable toddler twins, the bah-humbug cowboy is roped into helping prepare the ranch for the holidays. Working side by side, can Emma and Zach overcome their troubled past…and receive the greatest Christmas gift of all—love?

MY REVIEW

OH! OH! OH! THIS STORY IS SO GOOD!

Get ready for Christmas with this feel-good romance filled with the warm glow of the holiday spirit…children, snow and sparkling love.

What can I say? I loved EVERYTHING about Christmas with the Cowboy. Hero Zach Norman is amazing…*sigh*…my kind of quiet, self-sacrificing guy. As a single mom to twins, Emma Maxwell Norman is hardworking as she takes care of everyone with her organizational skills. The fast pace of getting the ranch ready for the Holiday Roundup keeps the couple busy as they learn to put the past in perspective and trust their feelings for each other.

Revisiting additional characters from previous books adds fun to the story. Lovable Dutch is a crusty, ol’ sweetheart. The two-year-old twins, Rachel and Elizabeth, are precious. The epilogue is Christmas perfection!

Author Tina Radcliffe knows how to make a reader laugh and cry as the conversations sparkle with humor and emotion. I want to spend Christmas at Big Heart Ranch enjoying cookies and chocolate muffins! This is definitely a story I didn’t want to end…and fortunately there will be another Big Heart Ranch book.

Favorite quote: “Big Heart Ranch is all about that. This is the place where we let go of our past. New beginnings. Like the birth of our Lord at Christmas.”

*I was given a copy of this book with no requirement to write a review. It is an honor to offer my honest opinion.

AUTHOR TINA RADCLIFFE

September! Do you need time to REFRESH? #TuesdayTea

Welcome to #TuesdayTea…just a bit early! Today we’re celebrating REFRESH, so I’m pouring invigorating chai spice black tea by Stash or a calming herbal camomile by Celestial Seasonings.

September brings the beginning of autumn and the start of the new school year.

As a former kindergarten teacher, I have a collection of Caldecott Award books and alphabet picture books.

For many years, I was a teacher, both in early elementary levels and in preschools. The new school year always brought a refreshing new beginning. A new assortment of unique kids. The smell of wax crayons. Bulletin boards full of color. Shouts and laugher on the playground.

Fall colors along the road to the trailhead.

But now as September arrives, I have a quieter time to breathe in the refreshing cooler air, carrying hints of pine. During the start of autumn, the mountain hiking available near us is special. Colors of fall…reds, golds and maroon…paint the landscape and a chill touches the wind as we hike through forests, passing creeks and climbing hillsides.

Recently, we followed a trail up a mountainside to have lunch on Sharkstooth Pass at an elevation of 12,000 feet above sea level.

Majestic Mount Hesperus stood beside us as we traveled along the path.

Even though we were slow on the climb up, we were refreshed along the way by the little creeks we crossed and by the chilly breeze blowing along the rocky slopes above the tree line. When we reached the pass, we stopped for lunch and marveled at the valley below and how far we’d come.

View from near the top of Sharkstooth Pass

My husband and I both felt the presence of our Lord as we absorbed the beauty of His creation before us. We felt deeply refreshed.

To me, September is a time of refreshment after the heat and busy times of summer. I hope you are able to take time to refresh during this month.

VIDEO OF A REFRESHING LITTLE CREEK WE CROSSED.

SCRIPTURE

That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. Romans 15:32 (KJV)

PRAYER

Lord, we do get busy, pulled in so many directions. Help us appreciate the season of autumn as a time to breathe deeply, quiet our minds and refresh our spirits. Amen.

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS to refresh your heart….

Christmas with the Cowboy (Big Heart Ranch) by Tina Radcliffe (releases 9/18 and Kindle releases 10/1)

I’ve loved all the books featuring Big Heart Ranch, a home for forgotten children. Each story centers on one of the three siblings helping to run the ranch. Tina Radcliffe’s writing adds humor, along with faith, to create fun and inspiring romances. This latest book is filled with Christmas spirit. I love this story…and will post a review next week! 🎄

The Sound of Distant Thunder (The Amish of Weaver’s Creek) by Jan Drexler (releases 9/18)

Though I haven’t read this book, I always enjoy author Jan Drexler faith-touched historical stories. This is the first in a new series. From the description on Amazon, it sounds good.

”From the talented pen of Jan Drexler comes this brand new Amish series set against the backdrop of the Civil War. She puts her characters to the test as they struggle to reconcile their convictions and desires while the national conflict threatens to undermine and engulf their community.”

At Home in Wishing Bridge by Ruth Logan Herne (releases 10/2)

If you like small town stories with warm down home characters, you will like this contemporary romance. This second book set in Wishing Bridge, New York, brings Dr. Ethan Brandenburg and nurse practitioner Thea Anastas together to temporarily bring medical assistance to the small town. They did not plan to be stuck in the tiny rural area, but He has an even better future ahead for these two people. A faith-filled story of leaving the past behind for brighter tomorrows.

WRITING NEWS

After completing an online class titled Monster Revisions, I have many ideas for improving my manuscript as I work through the revising process. In another class, I learned about submitting short stories for magazine publication and find this smaller word count goal may work for me.

Thank you for joining me for #TuesdayTea! What ways or in what places do you feel refreshed? I hope you treasure being refreshed the by the start of a new season.

Blessings and prayers always,

Sherida

August tea celebration of JOY! #TuesdayTea

Welcome to my August #TuesdayTea celebration of JOY!

Granddaughter’s afternoon tea picture. ❤️

Recently, my husband and I stayed with our three grandchildren while their parents took a relaxing vacation trip. Our week with these amazing little ones was filled with treasured moments of JOY!

We played in the sand, splashed in the wading pool, baked cookies, drew pictures, harvested a cucumber, read stories, wrote books, walked to the park, watched movies and sipped homemade lemonade.

One of my favorite times was baking cherry scones with the little helpers, then enjoying a high tea luncheon.

We made cherry scones and cucumber sandwiches for afternoon tea!

The cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches were a surprise hit, along with the peanut butter finger sandwiches. A fruity herbal tea was the perfect beverage choice for our little group. Fresh strawberries provided the just-right dessert. All three grandkids loved the tea celebration, pleasing Grammy with their enthusiasm.

We made so many treasured memories! The eight-year-old delighted in creating scented soap for her parents, the five-year-old happily explained his amazing LEGO creations, and the baby reached for my hand as she settled in for her naps….perfect moments of JOY!

We are so thankful to be able to spend time with our grandchildren. It was a week filled with smiles and love…..treasured blessings of JOY!

WRITING NEWS:

I’m currently taking a class, Monster Revisions, to do an intensive edit of my historical romance manuscript. I’m filled with JOY to be working on this story again after completing it two years ago.

AUGUST BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS:

Are you looking for book recommendations to end your summer? I have some suggestions, as reading time always brings JOY.

If you like historical, Julie Lessman’s Love’s Silver Lining is a romance set in Virginia City,  Nevada, in 1885. As the author does so well, this story is filled with sweet passion and the blessing of faith. I love the strong family members and other characters in this story.

If you like contemporary, A Father for Bella by Jill Weatherholt, is a good choice. I’ve just started this book and already find it engaging. It features one of my favorite settings….a country inn bed and breakfast hotel. I love to imagine I’m staying in small inns, like a virtual vacation.

If you like a bit of both historical and contemporary, the novella collection Legacy of the Heart, by Danica Favorite, Stacy Henrie, Tina Radcliffe, Terri Reed and Sherri Shackelford, would be just right. An antique locket is the thread between these five stories. I enjoyed them all.

Forest hiking in the mountains brings me JOY.

THOUGHTS:

From my mid-August reflections of summer, I’m thankful to have enjoyed many moments of joy. I found the following scripture appropriate. The sounds of joyful grandchildren and the summer hiking sounds of birds singing filled my heart with the light of our Lord. I treasure these memories.

SCRIPTURE:

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance. Psalm 89:15 (KJV)

Thank you for joining me for #TuesdayTea! Please try a sample of the goodies. I hope you enjoy the cucumber sandwiches as much as my grandson did. What joy-filled times did you treasure this summer?

May your life be filled with the treasures of smiles and love…and many moments of JOY!

Blessings and prayers always,

Sherida

Welcome to #TuesdayTea! I’m so glad you’ve stopped in because I’m reviewing the newest book by a favorite author, Tina Radcliffe, Falling for the Cowgirl.

Falling for the Cowgirl by Tina Radcliffe

Hold onto your saddle as you read Falling for the Cowgirl! You’ll find out if cowgirl AJ has what it takes to do a traditionally man’s job on my favorite ranch, Big Heart Ranch in Oklahoma.

AJ can also whip up yummy pies! So before I review this newest novel by Tina Radcliffe, take a slice of Three Berry Pie, fresh from the Timber Diner. I’ll pour you a cup of blackberry tea or a tall glass of iced tea with lemon if you prefer.

BLURB

She won the job…

Can he win her heart?

Hiring Amanda “AJ” McAlester as his assistant at the Big Heart Ranch isn’t foreman Travis Maxwell’s first choice—but his sisters insist she’s perfect for the job. And AJ’s determined to prove she’s just as qualified as any man. But with money on the line, AJ and her innovative ideas could put him at risk of losing everything…including his heart.

My review of Falling for the Cowgirl by Tina Radcliffe

I LOVE this book….and everything about Big Heart Ranch!

While reading Falling for the Cowgirl, I laughed, I cried, and I delighted in every page!

At Big Heart Ranch, newly hired AJ McAlester finds working for her boss, foreman Travis Maxwell, to be challenging…in many ways. Watching these two strong-headed people clash provides for great entertainment as unexpected twists in their lives occur.

I like the strength AJ demonstrates as she strives to prove her abilities. I found grumpy Travis to be quite swoon-worthy as his true heart begins to shine. All the folks on the ranch are warm and welcoming, feeling like real friends, family and co-workers. The addition of various animals adds more feel-good fun to the story.

And what an inspiring place for the setting of this series! Big Heart Ranch is based on a real ranch that provides family-style homes for children who need second chances and plenty of love. Each book tugs at my heart.

Tina Radcliffe does sparky humor, tender romance and faith-weaving so well in all her novels. This story, with the touching surprises, just may be my favorite Tina Radcliffe book….and I’d love a slice of blackberry pie…and a pair of turquoise boots!

Favorite quote: “Love and the good Lord reign here.”

*I received a copy of this book from the author with no requirement to write a review. I’m delighted to offer my honest opinion about this story.

MY THOUGHTS

As I said in my review, I love the concept of Big Heart Ranch which offers hope and love to neglected children by using family-style homes. In the acknowledgements, Tina Radcliffe mentions her Big Heart Ranch was inspired by Big Oak Ranch, a home program for kids in Alabama.

Here in New Mexico is another organization helping children, Navajo Ministries. The children are grouped into three homes, each with a set of parents. Read more about the Navajo Ministries program HERE.

I’m grateful to those groups working to make life better for our children. I appreciate author Tina Radcliffe for bringing these efforts to our attention through her writing.

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

May you be touched by the treasured blessing of compassionate people, such as those who help suffering children and those who spread the word about these programs of God’s love in action.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

What’s your favorite summer activity? #TuesdayTea #Summer2018

IT’S SUMMER!

Do you have a favorite thing to do when summer arrives? Something that really means summer to you? Summer seems to start a different routine. Swimming? Travel? Gardening? Hiking? How about relaxing and refreshing?

When our local farmers’s market opens, I feel like summer has truly begun since I can taste all the locally grown treats. I miss having my own veggie garden, so the stalls selling fresh produce delight my heart.

Look at the goodies I found at the first market of the season! The fresh salsa is perfect…with just the right amount of fire with New Mexico Chiles. Honey from Enchanted Bees, radishes, even New Mexico Sage soap!

Bounty from our local growers’ market!

Putting up some jars of apricot jam is on my summer schedule, along with a couple of short backpacking trips. Reading on our patio is planned for many warm afternoons.

Is reading on your summer to-do list?

Here’s a suggestion. Since some of my favorite romance authors released a collection of SUMMER cowboy novellas, I thought I’d share my review with you. So join me on the shaded patio with a glass of iced tea (sweetened with local honey from Enchanted Bees) while I tell you about this sweet romance collection.

COWBOYS OF SUMMER by Mary Connealy, Cheryl St, John, Tina Radcliffe, Missy Tippens, Lorna Seilstad and Sherri Shackelford

Cowboys of Summer-Kindle collection

What perfect romantic cowboy stories to enjoy during the summer!

I liked all these cute novellas by some favorite authors. Each one had great characters and fast pacing. I loved visiting the various communities with an emphasis on sweet summer romance…cowboy style.

Dr. Tess and the Cowboy by Mary Connealy

A fun-to-read story featuring enthusiastic paleontologist Tessa Rhoades searching for dinosaur bones on hard-working Joe Holt’s Nebraska ranch. His peace and quiet are disturbed by her exciting discovery. There is great entertainment as the couple must dig into their hearts to reveal their true passions.

Hometown Girl by Cheryl St. John

I always love a story with characters helping others, and Stevie Marshall is just such a woman as she helps teens through her garden market and 4-H activities. When her high school sweetheart, bull riding champion Justin Cooper, returns to town to help his father, summer fireworks flare. I enjoyed finding out if past regrets could be rectified to become something better for both of them.

Lake Effect by Tina Radcliffe

This is a fun story of leaving the past behind and forging ahead toward bright new beginnings. I enjoyed Jessica Richards’ experiences as she prepared to open Paradise Lake Bed and Breakfast. Rancher Tucker Jackson, with his work ethic and family priorities, is a strong hero. This summer visit to Paradise, Colorado, is filled with the beauty of the season and with plenty of friendly townsfolk to warm your heart.

His Lone Star Heart by Missy Tippens

Rancher Zeb West wants to buy his neighbor’s Double B Ranch, but the owner’s daughter, Beecher Brown, is hoping to keep her father’s ranch. To find true happiness, both face difficult struggles…Zeb to understand himself and Beecher to prove her abilities. I enjoyed the interesting conflict and the sweet romance.

Great Strides by Lorna Seilstad

Lorna Seilstad is a new-to-me author. Since I’m a former special needs preschool teacher, Dana Etherton’s dream for her equine therapy ranch was of particular interest to me. I liked the second chance theme of hardworking Adam Malone’s situation. The pace of this story great, as is the perfect inclusion of small details…fragrance, color, and weather. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author.

The Decoy Bride by Sherri Shackelford

The trials of pretending to be someone else is a fun premise in this story. As an office assistant to a publicist, Paige Monroe is given a chance to try out being famous. During this experience, she meets rancher Sterling Tanner. It’s a wild ride as the two get to know each other and overcome their fears. “It had taken a brush with the very thing she feared to finally free her.” A laugh-out-loud sweet romance!

Five stars  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and highly recommended!

I hope you can fit some reading time into your summer days.

I pray you find some refreshment as you enjoy God’s treasured blessing of summer. Whatever you have planned, I pray it is fun, safe and filled with joy!

“I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”

Jeremiah 31:25 (NIV)

Blessings,

Sherida
